~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: New London Submarine Base Naval Submarine Base New London is the Navy's first Submarine Base and the "Home of the Submarine Force." The main base occupies more than 687 acres. It is also home to more than 530 acres of family housing, 17 attack submarines, and the Navy's nuclear research deep submersible NR-1. A lifelong friend from kindergarten through high school served on the George Washington, blue crew.
He was a lifer. His wife liked the job security that the military provided for them. Now that I think about it, I introduced him to his wife while we were on leave at the same time. I wonder if he has ever forgiven me?
I rode the diesel boats and later slow ambush, ( fast attack. ) Boat sailors will know the reference. :-)
