Republicans: George Bush insists John McCain is a true conservative. James Dobson says he's not. Meanwhile, Newsweek predicts "there will be blood" in the GOP. We predict a Republican president. There has to be.
President Bush, speaking on "Fox News Sunday," responded "absolutely" to host Chris Wallace's question of whether John McCain was a "true conservative." McCain is "very strong on national defense," is "tough fiscally," "believes the tax cuts ought to be permanent" and is "pro-life," Bush noted.
For Obama and Hillary, none of the above apply.
Bush did say, "I think that if John is the nominee, he has got some convincing to do to convince people that he is a solid conservative." Indeed he does, as evidenced by Mike Huckabee's win in the Nebraska caucuses over the weekend.
McCain has done well in primaries where independents could vote for him. In caucuses dominated by party activists, he's done poorly. The caucuses of Maine, Minnesota, Alaska, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada and Wyoming were all won by Romney. One might dub McCain the "rebel without a caucus."
Ann Coulter may vote for Hillary Clinton, but we will not. The time for Coulters and the true believers to have rallied behind Mitt Romney was before Super Tuesday. It is by waiting for the next Reagan that they've risked sticking us with the next Clinton.

I voted for Bush even though I had reservations. I don't have any reservations about McCain, I flat don't like him. Maybe I can hold my nose and vote for him, but I will probably vote 3rd party or just stay home.

McCain voted to need 60 votes to cut taxes.

Immigration Overhaul—Social Security Credit S 2611 (Roll Call 130) The Senate killed an amendment barring illegal immigrants currently in the country from claiming Social Security credits for work done in years before they are assigned a valid Social Security number. ACU supported the amendment, which was killed by a vote of 50-49 on May 18, 2006.
McCain voted to let them keep their illegal credits.

Same-Sex Marriage Ban Constitutional Amendment S J Res. 1 (Roll Call 163) The Senate defeated a motion to end a filibuster against a constitutional amendment defining marriage as consisting only of the union of a man and a woman. ACU supported the constitutional amendment and thus supported this motion, which got a majority of the votes, but failed because 60 votes are required to end a filibuster. The vote was 49-48 on June 7, 2006.
McCain voted to not to not end the filibuster.
22. Border Fencing HR 5441 (Roll Call 200) The Senate rejected an amendment providing for the construction of 370 miles of double-layered fencing and at least 461 miles of vehicle barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border. ACU supported the amendment, which failed 29-71 on July 13, 2006.
McCain voted against the border fence.
23. Embryonic Stem Cell Research HR 810 (Roll Call 206) The Senate passed a bill allowing the use of federal funds in research on embryonic stem cells. ACU opposed this legislation, which passed by a vote of 63-37 on July 18, 2006.
McCain voted for embryonic stem cell research.
Uh, we all know Reagan is gone. McCain though, is a liberal turd. We would never even begin to compare him with Reagan. However, we may compare him to Ted Kennedy or his buddy Hillary Clinton. After all, if John McCain says Mrs. Clinton would be a good president, why vote for McCain?
McCain is a lousy conservative and he is a lousy democrat. That tells me he is pretty much a zero, and a man of no values.
If you are referring to Thompson and Hunter, I must disagree. While they are conservative, neither of them had a tenth of the political skill that Reagan had. Reagan won in spite of the establishment. The campaigns of Thompson and Hunter were pathetic.

Look, I admire a lot about President Bush, and I additionally believe he’s gonna look like an 80 percent approval prez roundabout 2010. But he is the last person who has any claim to determining who is a “true conservative.” It’s laughable. The man’s first offense against conservatives was his “compassionate conservative” byline. Surely we understood that was an insult—if we had been conservative all our lives we did. Now he’s selling us McCain, as a parting shot. Sorry. I ain’t buying.
Just floating an idea. The last President that was a Senator was LBJ. He kind of won in 64 cause the Nation was still in morning so he got that one by default.
Not a McCain supporter, but do you think the reason they have such a difficult time with their “baggage?” Their voting record in the house of compromise?
That is fine, just as long as you don’t stay home in November. As there is more at stake then just the presidency. All 435 House members are up for reelection as are 35 Senate seats (I could be wrong with this number). The left would like nothing more then us sitting the election out so they could not only win the White House but keep us from getting the House and the Senate back. If we won’t be able to do so it will be gone for us for decades to come
What I can not do is to throw Presidency to Obama or Clinton. I also positively do not think it will be any good for the country and neither for us. The whole idea of getting Presidency by stonewalling and/or letting your opponent screw up is pathetic. It also has a chance to work only if MSM is on your side and MSM is not.
Besides with Obama or Clinton’s fairness doctrine plus a couple of kooky Supreme Court judges there will be nothing else, but MSM. There will be such regulation of the campaign finance and speech that conservatives might as well forget of getting back to power for any foreseeable future.
Absolutely spot on. We all have problems with McCain. However, there is NOTHING to recommend in greasing the path for a victory for HRC or Obama, Nothing. Freepers who pound their chest in protest are simply juveniles having a hissy fit. sorry, that’s what it sounds like. If you have a problem supporting McCain, as I do, just call it a vote against an onslaught of unfettered socialism. And, don’t give me the nonsense McCain is no better. That’s puerile silliness.
I am planning on voting in state and local elections. I will write in a POTUS candidate. I will not vote for a man that would employ Juan Hernandez.
Even the Democrats haven’t put Juan Hernandez on their staffs.
