Congressman Tom Lantos of California has died. Lantos was the only Holocaust survivor ever to serve in Congress. His spokeswoman says he died early Monday morning.
Lynne Weill said that Lantos, 80, passed away at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center in suburban Maryland.
See you tomorrow...if I still care.
Ok, I shall. Or nothing at all.
My maternal grandfather died from EC. The doctors removed his esophagus and replaced it with a nylon tube. His 205 lb, 6' 4" body withered to 80 lbs before he passed on. His mother died from stomach cancer. Rolaids or Tums at bedtime is a must to get a decent night's sleep.
For how long?
I know this is a vicious place, you should have seen the thread when Gordon B. Hinckley died. Half the comments had to be deleted because some people pride themselves on having no sense of decorum.
Some people are just A-holes. And they think that we should all be a-holes when one of their congressmen dies, and that will somehow advance our cause politically. You people know who you are.
Corrie Ten Boom. WOW. Thanks. What else can I say?
Rest in Peace - Sir./Just Asking - seoul62.........
It was someone else on the thread who assumed the rule of God and condemned Lantos to hell.
R.I.P.
I heard about this on the radio while driving home from work.
The only Holocaust survivor to ever serve in the US Congress. I may not have agreed with his voting record in Congress, but I respect and admire his courage and bravery.
Cancer of the esophagus is not an easy way to go. Prayers offered up for his family during this difficult time.
My point, of course, in posting her name was to contrast the values and behaviors of two holocaust survivors, throughout the remainder of their lives.
I agree. I’ve been reading Free Republic since 2001 and blogging since 2003 but the behavior lately has really offensive. The venom directed at John McCain is unexcusable. I noticed as soon as a known and respected conservative endorses McCain he/she is immediately disowned and attacked. Free Republic is still the best place to get news about Iraq and the war on terror but I’m looking for other conservative sites with less hatred and malice.
Not sure what I posted that would require a warning.
I agree, a fine man, may he rest in peace. Now he did make comments that made my blood boil, but he was a gentleman about it most of the time and a true survivor.
Dude......
Sorry if you are offended but I have a hard time being nice to untrustworthy, big government, liars with an oversized self importance gene. Anyone who supports them is suspect and I for one am tired of getting screwed by the the party I have supported for 30 years. I understand your position but maybe it is time to stop the kiss kiss nice time and take the gloves off. The Emperor has no clothes and the elephant in the room has made dooty.
“he was a man you could respect.”
What are you smoking? He was a freaking baby killer advocate.
Is it me or does Lantos bear an uncanny resemblance to Darcula?
Chris Matthews devoted a whole five minutes of his show tonight to a tearjerking eulogy for Tom Lantos.
That tells me all I need to know about Lantos.
Bite your tongue! A previous post making that comparison was deleted.
I am wondering if we will be allowed to say bad things about Fidel Castro on the day he dies and goes to hell.
