John McCain For President: A Hero Leader

Editorial Pittsburgh Tribune-Review February 10, 2008

You have to hand it to John McCain. He has an impeccable sense of timing.

At the very moment that a dangerously fractured Republican Party could have disintegrated -- Thursday, when Mitt Romney, the darling of the anti-McCain crowd exited the race -- Sen. McCain delivered a stunning speech to the annual gathering of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington.

Certainly, there was a measured sense of rebuke in the words of the Arizona senator who now has a virtual lock on the GOP presidential nomination. Fiercely independent, McCain made no apologies for positions he holds dear but may be at odds with the traditional conservative base.

But McCain also offered an impressive tutorial on what the core of conservatism really is -- small government, fiscal discipline, low taxes, a strong defense and a judiciary that does not legislate from the bench.

And in the starkest of terms, John McCain reminded those gathered at CPAC and those watching nationwide that the alternative -- freedom-stripping, purse-robbing and security-endangering Democrats -- is no alternative at all.

It was the speech of a hero leader at the exact moment when America is in dire need of heroes and leaders. And we wholeheartedly endorse John McCain for president.

I only go to few Conservative blogs - think I read it on Littlegreenfootballs.com - in any event it has been shown he did do it - it will be coming out if he becomes the Republican nominee for president - lots and lots of dirt and mud will be slung - we’ll see if it sticks ... the Rather report on Bush is a good example - it could be phony .. time will tell I suppose ... A lot of people who say they are sitting out this election will end up voting for someone in November. It might be a 3rd Party candidate but they’ll vote for someone.

Note that I said “a lot of people”, not everyone.

“That part is backward, McLame tried to get Kerry to let him be his VP.”

That is just completely wrong org.whodat, McCain has enough things to answer for, that is not one of them.

Oh good Lord, more chest beating McCain bravado.

McCain’s sold out the party on every major issue. He may not be a total liberal yet, but there’s not one issue where he doesn’t have a mixed record. I’m not going to vote for him on the fear of Hillary and hope he doesn’t turn right around and push Hillary’s agenda thru anyway.

I would not believe much from the Dem party paper called the Hill ! The editor is Mort from Fox News , he is a dem operative.
Lets say interviews from Bitter ex Senate leader , Daschle are not considered a reliable source either. The Daschle family took a real financial hit once he could ability to funnel military contracts to his wife’s lobbyist clients !
Can you say sour grapes ! Gee what a shock the other source is another ex Dem congressman !

John McCain For President: A Hero Leader

Doubtless this all rang far, far more convincingly in the original Spanish.

"Doing ANYTHING to assist Hillary Clinton in securing power over the government and military is completely asinine..."

Voting for someone who is only marginally better and perhaps, in some respects, even worse than Hillary or Obama is not something that Conservatives can do.

Yes, he served his country in the military. Yes, he was a POW. Perhaps he was even a hero. In response to the "Liberal" things he's done as a Republican Senator, I think I will borrow one of Senator McCain's recent statements, "I won't dignify that with an answer". He is not and probably never has been a Conservative and his repeated betrayals of the Conservative Base are despicable. The fact that he has a temper is forgiveable; many of us have a temper as well and that's why he's in such deep 'stuff'.

The bottom line is that whether or not I vote for him is irrelevant; what matters is whether the majority of Republicans and Independents who tend toward "Conservative" can overcome their distaste and vote for him. Maybe enough of them can to make him our next President (but I can't and I won't).

“Who is going to make those charges and make them stick? A Democrat? Hillary Clinton? Barack Obama? I don’t think so.”

McCain has admitted much of this.
