Clinton Secretly Visits Edwards; Obama Next

ABC News has learned that Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., met with former Sen. John Edwards secretly at his home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on Thursday. Clinton's rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Illionis Sen. Barack Obama will meet with Edwards on Monday, sources say.

Clinton initially told reporters that she was not asking for Edwards' endorsement immediately after he got out of the race. Yesterday, speaking in Lewiston. Maine Clinton said "I'll ask John Edwards to help with anything I do in the White House."

This would be an important endorsement for Clinton to secure, and is essential enough to her that she made a stealth trip to North Carolina, despite her busy campaign schedule. Clinton was two hours late to her first event last Thursday in Virginia, presumably things in the Tar Hill state tied her up.

Sen. Obama would very much like Edwards' endorsement too. Pundits have speculated that Edwards' populist message is more closely aligned with Obama.

Before exiting the Democratic presidential contest, Edwards secured pledges from his rivals to make fighting poverty a priority.

The meetings were initiated by Clinton and Obama, according to sources.

I’m expecting that Obama will get some slight majority of the elected delegates. Then Hillary will maneuver with Howard Dean to get the Florida and Michigan delegates to be counted, in her favor of course. Then Bill will call in all his chits and twist the arms off of any super-delegates who he ever thought about doing a favor for while President. That could add up to enough. But it will be enough to really piss off the Obama voters, who might stay home in November in protest.

As far as the possibility that Hillary will win the nomination thusly and offer the VP slot to Obama - I don’t even know how to handicap his incentives in that, but overall I do not know what it adds to the ticket. Blacks will vote 92-95% Democratic Party anyway, so Obama could at most turn that up to 99.8% among blacks while dialing down the vote among other groups who are not impressed with his experience and perhaps are not keen on an African American as 2nd in line. In the fall campaign I could see McCain and his VP hammering the idea that Hillary’s first decision was a blunder, choosing someone not qualified to be President, based on experience.

Edwards cannot play much of a role in this - throw him on a ticket and you don’t even pick up a state in the south.

Hillary Clinton and John Edwards were overheard Thursday collaborating on a strategy to eliminate other Democratic candidates from future presidential debates and forums.

According to the Associated Press, Fox News Channel microphones picked up Clinton and Edwards on stage discussing their desire to limit future joint appearances to exclude some rivals lower in the crowded field.

"We should try to have a more serious and a smaller group," Edwards said into Clinton's ear following a presidential forum in Detroit hosted by the NAACP.

Hasn't that financial confiscatory program been in effect for over 60 years now ??????

Yeah, the ol' take money from those who create jobs and give it to those who made bad choices in their lives...

Since you feel that way Breck Boy, why don't you give all your worldly possessions to the needy?

He proved himself superfluous and banal, but the Two Tweedles are fighting for his kisses?

More like the crucial (few) delegates he earned in the previous primaries. Hillary probably kissed his feet during this feet.

Read some of the posts at ABCNEWS.com about Hillary and you get a feel for what general public thinks about both Clinton’s.

It’s funny, I have a very liberal DIL who told me about a year ago that she likes Hitlery. Today, she told me that she is supporting Obama and that the Clintons are “so corrupt”.

Given the options, I’d take that one.

But it will be enough to really piss off the Obama voters, who might stay home in November in protest.

That is a win for conservatives.

Son of Cain will never be elected, not even with Balack voters staying home . . . unless conservatives were willing to throw in with him.

Man, what kinda real concessions, conservative concessions could we negotiate out of the GOP/Son of Cain for getting him elected?
