Thousands pulling their kids out of public schools

Families are running for their lives....

In a Feb. 7 press release, a broad coalition of Christian grass-roots organizations boldly banded together urging parents to either homeschool their children or place them in Christian schools. Prominent pro-family crusaders like Phyllis Schlafly, once a proponent of public school reform, are saying it's time to exit public schools.

Indeed, the situation is so serious that in states around the country, sexual material is being taught to children as young as kindergarten age. Barb Anderson, research and policy analyst with the Minnesota Family Council, details lewd content being taught in public schools in a policy paper titled "The Birds & Bees Project: Gay Sex Ed for Kids." According to Anderson, a presenter at the annual Minnesota School Health Education Conference stated, "When speaking to teens you must tell them there is no right or wrong and no good or bad choices."

Are Christians, those with morals, and anybody else who is pulling their kids out of the public schools, the majority in such cases? If so, it doesn’t make sense that the majority is running from the minority.

Parents who love their children should pull them out of the government schools immediately.

Some wise parents don’t ever put their kids in the public school in the first place. Mine never did, so I’m not sure if they ever “missed” her. She was never there for them to count in the first place. If you don’t show up for kindergarten, you were never in their system to “pull out” from.

Besides, I really doubt that the reporting of the numbers of kids in school vs homeschoolers is accurate. Kind of like the inflation numbers of our economy, they only tell us what they would like us to believe.

I went to public schools. My parents made me study. Therefore, I received a good education.

I know about Huckabee’s friendship with the NEA, but has he opposed home schooling as well?

I think Huckabee has been very friendly and sympathetic to homeschoolers. His endorsement by the NEA stemmed from his opposition to vouchers, but Huckabee's reasons are different than the NEA's. Allowing government tax money into the private school system would open the doors to government regulation. He would prefer to keep private schools unfettered by that inevitable encroachment.

Huckabee was also the first governor to appoint a homeschooling mom to the state board of education.

In his address to CPAC yesterday he espoused his belief that parents know best how to raise their children, which I interpret as being completely understanding when it comes to homeschooling. I assume his experience as a minister would have given him an intimate knowledge of homeschooling families.

Homeschool numbers:

I don’t believe them either. It’s been 2 million now since 2003, yet homeschooling is supposedly growing a 7 to 15% a year. Go figure! (literally)

All academically successful children are homeschooled. The only thing a government school is doing is sending home a curriculum for the parents and child to follow.

Sometime sending a kid to school is a lot more work that just doing the homeschooling yourself!

Why is this news? This has been going on for more than 35 years. (or in some ways since the Brown decision). Where have all of you been. In all but the most rare cases, those who have the financial resources and even many who do not have been putting their kids in private schools or recently home schooling. And this is especially true for the hypocritical liberals. They are among the most frequent to use the private schools. Another big group of people who put their kids in private schools are public school teachers. What does this tell you about the real state of the situation and why does this not make the news? I will let you figure that out for yourselves. The real purpose of the public schools is political indoctrination. Education is not the primary purpose.
Just look at the Clintons. Or better yet look at the many thousands on the upper west side of Manhattan.
The public schools are for the most part a lost cause. A voucher system is the only thing that can possibly save us now.

Can you just imagine what would happen today if all the people had a solid understanding of history under their belts? There is so many socialist programs that never would have got off the ground and possibly the proprietors would be impeached from Office. It would be a different world but thanks to public schools and the dumbing down efforts we are about to go over a cliff.

I like homeschooling a lot, but I disagree with your statement. Parental involvement is the key, whether that be tutoring or requiring a child to earn high marks. I had plenty of public school teachers that were top notch, and while I was tutored by my parents, a large percentage of what I learned was learned in class.

To each his own, I say. More power to those who would dedicate themselves to educating children at home. But I do not believe that our school are the worst in the world. I think that is a catch-all slogan embraced by those who would paint with too broad a brush.

mccain is definitely for school vouchers though I don’t know if he said anything specifically about homeschools.

Why wait for vouchers? Why don’t Conservatives ( Christian and non-Christian) create our own vouchers. How?

If Harvard can create a $35 Billion dollar endowment, and colleges and universities grow endowments in the billions and multi-millions, then surely Conservatives could do this for K-12 education!

Imagine! What if private Conservative foundations gave private vouchers so that kids could go to private schools. Not only could Conservative foundations grant the vouchers but they could inspect the school, certify the curriculum, certify and test the teachers, and test the students. Perhaps they could support an individual teacher hoping to open a one room school house, micro-school, virtual school, or homeschool cooperative.

It makes me sick to think of how many conservatives ( Christian and non-Christian) gave money to fund the endowments of colleges and universities that are fundamentally anti-Christian, pro-Marxists, and anti-free market.

Conservatives **are** wealthy enough that not only could every child in this this nation have access to an excel constitutionally, free market, Judeo Christian based education, but we could likely do it for every child in the world. We are that wealthy. We could do it if we **wanted**!

I hope not! He will only increase the power of the Department of Education and expand federal control over education.

I understand your concern but we have a similar idea for colleges called Pell Grants. Remember that the private school market is very very small because of the public school monopoly. How do you break the cycle?
Vouchers will expand that market and then hopefully we won’t need them anymore. Also, the vouchers go to low income families so it’s not going to really affect the high end private schools that deserve to be completely independent. They are also voluntary under parental control so it’s not as if the federal govt is directly funding private schools with strings attached.

Parental involvement is the key,

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The reason parental involvement is the key is because it is the parents who are doing the educating. The school is merely sending home the curriculum.
