Primary Voters: Vote against McCain! Vote for deadlock! Vote anyone but McCain!
Feb 9, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 02/09/2008 11:44:24 AM PST by Jim Robinson

Folks, there still may be a slim chance to force a deadlocked convention. I'm no election math wizard, but I believe it's still mathematically possible for McCain to NOT receive the requisite number of delegates to win the nomination. But it would require a great turnout of passionate conservative voters in the remaining primary states to accomplish.

The trick would be for all remaining primary conservative voters to vote for their favorite candidate as if he were still in the race. Fred's name is still on the ballot. So is Hunter's and Romney's. Shoot, vote for Huckabee, Paul or even Giuliani if you wish. Anyone but McCain!

None of the others can possibly win, but it's still possible for McCain to lose. Let it go to the convention and force the GOP to publicly fight it out as if its very life depended on it. Because it does.

What do we have to lose? As it stands now, more and more conservatives are declaring their intentions to sit out the general. If McCain is our candidate, looks like Hillary/Obama will be our next president. Don't let it happen. Vote for any GOPer other than McCain!

Great comment. I saw a McCain ad where he proclaims he is a conservative. Many times he has lied that he is a conservative. Many of his supporters and endorsers also keep insisting he is a conservative. They must think we are stupid to fall for that BS.

Then why did every Pubbie candidate spend so much time trying to convince the electorate that they were the real conservative? It doesn't make sense if they don't need us.

power-whores pandering for votes maybe ?

Sure they want as many votes as possible, but I dont think they really believe they need the WHOLE base, or they would actually establish dominant records in which to reel it in...

I will no longer vote for evil in an attempt to vote against some other evil, either way is condoning more of the same...

I don’t know what you’re asking me. I’m neither a Bush supporter/voter, nor a McCain supporter/voter, nor a Republican. Hope that helps.

It is absolutely imperative that government maintain the appearance of legitimacy. If McCain didn't make even token gestures toward conservative, too many people would realize there was only one political party, and would start checking off the list of usurpations in the Declaration of Independence.

Maybe conservatives should just form their own party and not worry about voters who register as (R). If they like what a conservative 3rd party candidate is offering then they will support them, otherwise they can vote the McCain/Bush/Graham/Sphinctor/Snow type of candidate.

You know perfectly well what the question is referring to; quite wriggling, for heaven's sake, and answer it plainly. I didn't try squirming away from yours, after all.

I don’t know what you’re asking me.

Pfeh. Intellectual cowardice is the least defensible form of all.

"Dis" and "missed." In that order.

Breaking the GOP and all of its factions hands the democrats the reins of power. They care less about ideological purity than the right does. For them it’s about gaining power and being willing to get something done for their agenda. I do believe that liberalism and its various tenets alienate moderate types but the rhetoric coming from the right pisses them off just as much. Conservatives want to rule the republican party but don’t want to acknowlede that they need the moderate types to come aboard to win the WH and hold Congress and the Senate. Frankly I don’t see how people can expect others to hold their noses and vote for their guy but throw a fit when asked to do the same.

Keep it simple:

Constitution first and foremost
Individual liberties
Less government not more
Strong borders and national security
Sound economic policy

More often than not people will go for this model.

If the state is winner-take-all you would have to vote Huckabee for this to work. Otherwise vote your favorite if you wish, just vote against McCain.

I believe that McCain knows he can't win, don't let him suicide bomb our party.

Why concentrate on it if, as you say, they don't need the conservative vote? That would just be losing them votes where they do need them by that logic. I don't see any sense in that.

Breaking the GOP and all of its factions hands the democrats the reins of power.

McCain/Feingold (Soros backed)
McCain/Lieberman (Algore backed)
McCain/Kennedy (Vicente Fox backed)

The Dems have the reins no matter how the cards are cut. If Amnesty goes through and 12 million illegals become voters what will happen to the near 50/50 elections of the last few cycles? Will liberals need to run as RINOs anymore?

I'm trying not to have such a bad attitude about all this, but the GOP gives me no reason to believe otherwise. They've proven that they simply aren't listening. We will NOT vote for a RINO. But they simply aren't hearing us.

It’s pretty obvious that pols like McCain don’t care what our political views are. But it is equally obvious that they desperately want us to vote for them. Not me. Not for this schlub.

I'm going to vote for Huckabee on Tuesday here in VA. I hoped it wouldn't come to this, but here we are. I have serious problems with Huck, but I can live with him. (Hunter was my first choice.) I don't know what I'll do in November if McCain is the GOP nominee.

My daughter is turning 18 this year and will be voting for the first time this fall. She asked me who I think she should support, and I had to tell her I just don't know at this point. Never thought I'd see the day.

The other possibility is Huckabee for President. As a compromise by the convention.

Considering that many of us feel like McCain and Huckabee tag-teamed us into this mess, that might not fly with some people. For instance, people like....me.

A compromise by the convention? Because we have not been able to compromise thus far? How about if we all do what we think is best and see what happens? When I see that weaselly Arkansas Governor I can't help but think how much he reminds me of Bill Clinton. Centrist/Populists Governors with lots of skeletons in the closet. We need not supply ammo to use against our party any more than necessary for an honest discussion. I encourage people to investigate the pardon scandal and the dog torture scandal and decide if you think these charges are credible and could possibly hurt us in the fall. Remember that many good people lost their seats following Watergate. IMHO Nominating anyone with character problems, including John McCain or Mike Huckabee, would be a huge mistake for the GOP.

I understand how you feel. Can Independents vote in Virginia’s primary? There are several who are petrified McCain might win.
