Unlike McCain, Hitler 'Had a Coherent Tax Policy,' Coulter Says By Matt Purple CNSNews.com Correspondent February 08, 2008

(Clarification: Ann Coulter's appeared at the Omni Shoreham hotel but not at CPAC.)

Washington (CNSNews.com) - In a speech at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C., Friday, just down the hall from the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), author Ann Coulter said that the primary difference between Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Adolf Hitler was that Hitler "had a coherent tax policy."

Coulter compared a potential alliance between disillusioned conservative Republicans and Sen. Hillary Clinton to the alliance between Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin during World War II, which was formed to defeat Hitler.

"I'm not comparing McCain to Hitler," she added. "Hitler had a coherent tax policy."

The remark received wild applause from the audience of about 500 conservative activists. Many in the crowd seemed hostile to the idea of a McCain presidency and cheered Coulter's attacks on the Arizona senator.

Coulter also criticized McCain for his sponsorship of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill, accused him of wanting amnesty for illegal immigrants, and mocked his frequent touting of his military service in Vietnam.

"Couldn't we pick a POW who doesn't want to shut down Guantanamo?" she said.

And I’m not comparing Ann to Magda Goebbels; Magda Goebbels had a happy marriage.

What’s that “rule” or “law” when you inject Hitler into the conversation? After that point, no one takes anything you say seriously. Nor should they.

I know she’s a political “wit” and all, but come on, Annie. Get a grip. Nothing about Hitler was the least bit amusing. And John McCain has his faults, but he’s no Hitler. I think you’re confusing him with the Brown Shirts on the other side of the aisle. ;)

Maybe a little.

OK, just a bit. But nobody is obeying the RULES for any Ann Coulter thread.

Anyway the more she does this the more she will generate compassion toward McCain, hateful crap like this always causes the opposite effect.

Maybe John Dole and Feingold could sponsor a law against this kind of speech .....Ah that's the ticket

Nope — I’ll not join the bash Ann crowd..

Ann is EXACTLY right and on point.....
She has a LONG memory for the facts about McCain and is not ready to forget all that “for the party”...

The party be damned - if McCain is the best they have to offer..

If I have only Leftists to vote for — I might as well vote for one that is correctly labeled....as a Democrat.

All three of these candidates, with a Democrat controlled Congress will most assuredly lead the Republic to ruin...
Let the Democrats take FULL CREDIT for the chaos....

Rosie O’Donnell makes more sense... She is her own undoing.

Godwin’s law (also known as Godwin’s Rule of Nazi Analogies)[1] is an adage formulated by Mike Godwin in 1990. The law states:[2][3]

“As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.”

Godwin’s law is often cited in online discussions as a caution against the use of inflammatory rhetoric or exaggerated comparisons, and is often conflated with fallacious arguments of the reductio ad Hitlerum form.

The rule does not make any statement whether any particular reference or comparison to Hitler or the Nazis might be appropriate, but only asserts that one arising is increasingly probable. It is precisely because such a comparison or reference may sometimes be appropriate, Godwin has argued[4] that overuse of Nazi and Hitler comparisons should be avoided, because it robs the valid comparisons of their impact. Although in one of its early forms Godwin’s law referred specifically to Usenet newsgroup discussions,[5] the law is now applied to any threaded online discussion: electronic mailing lists, message boards, chat rooms, and more recently blog comment threads and wiki talk pages.

I’m no fan of McCain, but he is certainly no Hitler. Comparing people you dislike to Hitler is a cliche and is also immature. There are enough ways to attack McCain without resorting to childishness.

Ah, so now its down to wishing evil on America to “teach them a lesson”.

I’m sorry. That’s diseased thinking.
