NBC NEWS STATEMENT REGARDING CHELSEA CLINTON COMMENT:

On Thursday's "Tucker" on MSNBC, David Shuster, who was serving as guest-host of the program, made a comment about Chelsea Clinton and the Clinton campaign that was irresponsible and inappropriate. Shuster, who apologized this morning on MSNBC and will again this evening, has been suspended from appearing on all NBC News broadcasts, other than to make his apology. He has also extended an apology to the Clinton family. NBC News takes these matters seriously, and offers our sincere regrets to the Clintons for the remarks.

On Thursday, when Clinton spokesman Phillippe Reines contacted Shuster and told him the comment was offensive, the reporter e-mailed back that he was referring to the fact that Chelsea is making calls to convention superdelegates but refusing to talk to the press. Shuster did make that point on the air — after his pimped out comment, which was not delivered as a joke.

Reines was incredulous at the lack of an apology, but Shuster stood his ground.

Until this morning, that is. Shuster plans to apologize tonight on “Tucker,” the 6 p.m. show on which he was filling in for host Tucker Carlson yesterday.

Seems odd that the family of “America’s first black president” would be offended by that. I understood being “pimped out” to be a compliment, in the vernacular.

Presidential debate might not happen in Ohio
Clinton might boycott MSNBC over commentator’s remark
Friday, February 8, 2008 4:57 PM

Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York indicated today she might not take part in any future presidential debates with MSNBC, which could nix an Ohio debate that was agreed to just yesterday.

I meant that you don't see people calling pimps "pimp" anymore. They fall under the umbrella term "gansta," because pimps are most always also gangstas.

I don't think I'm wrong about this.

It’s a bluff. Hillary won’t pass up a chance to put herself in front of a camera.

What did they do about Scarborough’s comment that Jeri Thompson “works the pole”?

EXACTLY. He can have interns knocked dead from blunt force trauma in his office and make comments like the one above, but never even be suspended for one hour.

Out of everybody on television, Shuster is the most disgusting human being I ever laid eyes on.
What a pantload.

It’s funny he got kicked off for saying what he said, but the end result is all that matters.

Whoops. Of course you're right about the "bling" meaning. I wrote this:

["Pimp" is now used almost exclusively as a generic to mean "to put someone/something out in front of oneself to do their dirty work" (because so many people do so these days.)]

I meant to say that's the case when the word is used in a negative fashion. Of course the equally used definition is the one of "flash" or "decked out."

I was trying to differentiate it from the old BAD meaning of the word and got stuck.

Sorry about that, Reign.

The sky is blue here. ;-)

the lady is 27 years old for chrissakes! Can’t defend herself? Clinton mafia strikes again!

If the media accused President Bush of Pimping Out Jenna and Barbara, I doubt there would be any reaction from the President or his fellow Republicans.

They would allow Jenna and Barbara to handle the response, since they are adults.

On the participation respective daughters of Presidents.

That makes them, to a degree, "fair game". But the "pimped out" comment was over the line.

Your point well taken here and I stand corrected. I did not seem to notice a high profile for the GWB daughters last time out. It does seem that the respective daughters of both politicians took and one is are taking an extremely minor role in the elective process.

I am encouraged at the postive remarks and indeed note adverse remarks, this does indicate we can agree to disagree sometimes.

At what point would it be acceptable to refer to them as whores?

Correction to my last post.

It does seem that the respective daughters of both politicians took and one is now taking, was and is, an extremely minor role etc.

What did they do about Scarborough’s comment that Jeri Thompson “works the pole”?

They renewed his contract for one more year, so he will have no audience.

Second prize was a two-year extension.

Nasty names

At no point what so ever.

I meant that my lack of studied observation of the last election, was that I did not notice the two twins actively campaigning. I thought they were under wraps. I was corrected on this however.

Still, a lot has been made of even the slightest participation. Even to a squeak about 75 feet from the polling booth being mandated. Chelsea may have got too close, said they.

>>You can’t seriously think the idiot was meaning that Chelsea looks good now? The conversation was about Chelsea making phone calls to people to get them to support her mother.<<

No, I think the reporter was using the change in a word’s meaning as cover to call Chelsea a prostitute and the mother wants it both way - for Chelsea to be out there and active politically and yet protected from inquiry or criticism like when she was a child.

In short, everybody looks bad, IMO.

>>Yes, they want it both ways, as usual.<<

Its probably good for us to get used to it before the issue is whether to socialize a quarter of the economy.
