I love it. Gates wants kinder and gentler capitalism, but, his own company is involved, fights with brass knuckles.

To sell product to people who have already purchased Windows. Had they actually created a better operating system, people would upgrade gladly without coercion, but legacy API's and environment compatibility keep them from implementing many features and cutting down on bloat.
In my opinion, Microsoft needs to make another operating system with a more modern kernel, filesystem, and API. The problem of course, is to get developers to migrate. If they do, then users will.

There are so many copies of XP available on the net what they are doing is irrelevant.
I went back to XP because half my software would’nt work.

Fine. After decades on fighting with PCs, I’m ready for my MacPro laptop.
With 4 PC’s in the house and a network that included my TIVOs, I never could get my Vista-ridden new HP dv9000 to connect with my home network, and then just as mysteriously, my 1 month old HP had a motherboard meltdown.

Fans protest Microsoft's plan to dump XP The other night I saw an Apple computers display at Best Buy. I stopped and played for a few minutes and was favorably impressed.
When I am ready for a new computer, I will for the first time, give Apple a good look over.

Yes. No one wants Vista. Everyone hates Microsoft. That's why they made
over $2 BILLION in profits EVERY MONTH last quarter. Setting new revenue and profits records... Darn them they just can't sell a thing. Terrible to see them only make $24 BILLION dollars in profit this year, what with the absolute paucity of Vista sales...

Someone oughta make a gif animation of the scene in Transformers when Sam jams the Allspark into Megatron.
But replace the Allspark with a Vista disc.

I don’t think many are so-called FANS of XP - we use it because it’s head and shoulders better than Vista.
I know a lot of companies that will go all Linux if Microsoft gets rid of XP.

Vista is the absolutely worst thing Microsoft ever did. I hate it, my programs hate it, my anti-virus hates it, my flash sticks hate it. It is just terrible, why are they forcing it on us. They are going to suffer the same fate as the old US auto industry who tried to force us to buy a new car every three years, and it can’t happen soon enough to suit me!

“Why are they forcing Vista on us”
Why is Ford selling 2008 models? Profit. If you don’t want it, don’t buy it. There is no reason to change over unless you need to run some software than only works on Vista.
Your other choices are Apple and a few hundred versions of Linux.

I hate XP less than I hated ME which I hated less than I hated 98.
Vista is an improvement over XP.

But others defended Vista, telling critics, "Vista works fine on a new computer. You babies need to grow up and switch from diapers to underwear."John McCain does marketing for Microsoft?

Got me. I recently bought a Macbook running Leopard. I’ll keep my PC’s running XP as long as possible, but I plan to replace them with Apple products as it becomes necessary.

I would have been happy staying with Win2K PRO
WinXP is notbad
but VISTA IS A ROYAL PAIN - every time you click on something to run it is ask “do you want to run this program” - well duhhh if I didnt i wouldn’t have clicked on it
