Huckabee still standing?

Gov. Mike Huckabee's folks tell us that the withdrawal of Mitt Romney is a "blessing" for them and that they are "in it for the long haul", which will make the next few weeks quite interesting, eh?

I can't say that I blame them. Frankly, I appreciate reading the tea leaves and realizing that getting a ton of delegates is an almost-impossible task - but if I spent millions of my own dollars, as Gov. Romney has done, and invested a non-stop, round-the-clock effort for months and months to campaign for president, I really think I'd have to stay in it until the bitter end.

Many will say that Gov. Romney did a noble thing in falling on the sword and doing what he feels is best for the Republican Party. However, you didn't find much of that appreciation at the CPAC convention when he bowed out. Shock, disappointment, sadness and even anger were the moods expressed by these terrific conservative Republicans.

I'm sure the odds are terrifically against Mike Huckabee getting the nomination -- but kudos to him for staying in the race. No sense in packing your tent until you actually have to!

The odds aren't "terrific". They're mathematically impossible.

Huckabubba is like the small kid on the basketball court. If he stays around the rim long enough, he eventually will get a rebound after the real players have gone tooth and nail at it.....

Mike Gallagher is not paying attention. Mitt Romney did not quit the race, he suspended his campaign.

If McCain does something stupid or Huckabee flies into a rage and kills McCain at a debate, Romney will crank the machine back up and take over.

As far as Huckabee goes, it will be quite interesting to see if he loses to Romney in one of the upcoming primaries. He has already come in behind Ron Paul in 4 states.

Romney was spending millions of his own money — outspending McCain 5 to 1 and Huckabee 14 to 1 — with mixed and arguably disappointing results. Maybe his funds are limitless but as Bill Kristol said, there comes a point when a good businessman like Mitt Romney has to stop throwing good money after bad.

I don’t believe that he’s actually staying in the race. He’s only gaining name recognition and free publicity on his donors’ dollars until the convention when he actually becomes McCain’s running mate.

Romney sent a message to mccain. “Don’t forget the businessmen. Don’t forget immigration.”
Huckabee sends a message to mccain. “Don’t forget the working class. Don’t forget to be strong on values and overhauling the tax code.”

A vote doesn’t always get the person you voted for but it can influence IDEAS

I think it would be better to say that a vote for Huckabee is simpy wasting time.......

He has no chance.

Huckster is just pimping for Veep. Simple as that.

Actually, dropping out now that the fight is effectively over puts Romney in a better position for VP selection. (More compellingly, Romney has strength in states that are actually in contention; Huck's strength is concentrated in states that would go Republican if they ran a ticket consisting of a department store mannequin and a potted plant.)

That said, I don't think McCain has the temperment to bury the hatchet with one of his former rivals.

Wrong! Mike Huckabee make’s a very good living filling the pulpit for sick, vacationing or any other reason a pastor may need a temporary fill in.

Our morning talk guy is at CPAC, and say that his sources say that Huckabee will either drop out today or tomorrow. We’ll see.
