mkjessup: “Waiting for the predictable swarm of McCainiac apologists”

Well, I won’t apologize for him, and I certainly won’t condemn those who are angry right now.

I will offer some advice: vent and then get over it. Continue fighting for small government, personal responsibility, and individual freedom, but don’t marginalize yourselves by leaving the political battlefield. We lost this battle—ONE battle. Accept it and make the best of it you can. Then move on, because we’ve got many more battles ahead.

No one ever said it was going to be easy to be a conservative.

Yours is the best advice any conservative could take. We are going to need to stick together now, more than ever.

Wise words, indeed.

Well Citizen, I disagree with you. I watched the news yesterday and see people who I thought of as conservatives endorse this maniac. Then guys who have been belittled by him and cursed at by him, come out and endorse him. It’s not a war or a battle. It’s a rigged game and we - the citizens - are the suckers. I’ve decided I’m not going to play in this game anymore so I’m just going to sit on the sidelines. Have fun.

Hell, the last eight years have taught us THAT.

In 2004, when Sen. John Kerry was getting his comeuppance from the 'Swift Boat Veterans for Truth,' vets who had known him during the war and couldn't remain silent as the Democratic nominee distorted his war record, McCain weighed in by calling the Swift Boaters "dishonorable and dishonest."

I had forgotten this comment...

IF the Republican Party had thrown conservatives even ONE bone on Republican distinctives like balancing (let alone cutting) the federal budget, curbing the IRS and the BATFE, limiting the scope of federal government, and preserving individual liberties, you might have an argument. As it was, Republicans had the Presidency and both houses of congress for the better part of eight years, and have nothing substantial to show for it.

So if we've helped the Republicans to get on top and got screwed for our pains, exactly why should we knock ourselves out to try to help Republicans stay on top?
