BERKELEY Two Berkeley City Council members want to rescind an official statement that the U.S. Marines and their recruiting station are "uninvited and unwelcome intruders" in the city after the action sparked a national uproar. But Betty Olds and Laurie Capitelli, who wrote the proposal, did not move to rescind three other related items the council passed last week: calling on residents to impede the work of any military recruiting station in the city; asking the city attorney to investigate whether the Marines violate city laws banning discrimination based on sexual orientation; andgiving the protest group Code Pink a free weekly parking space and sound permit to protest in front of the Shattuck Avenue recruiting station.
Their item will come before the City Council on Tuesday.
"I would prefer they recruit somewhere else, but they have a constitutional and legal right to be here," Capitelli said Tuesday. "If they decide to be here, then there are actions (protesters) can take, and the Marines will have to decide whether that's an acceptable price to pay to be in Berkeley. That's their decision to make, but not the City Council's decision."
The council approved asking the Marines to abandon their office by a 6-3 vote last week. Council members Olds, Gordon Wozniak and Kriss Worthington voted against the item. A spokeswoman for Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates said Tuesday he would vote to rescind the statement.

Thank you all for all your support.

kinda hard to out that cat back in the bag, once said it can not be unsaid
Unfortunately, the above resolutions will not be rescinded. Pt 1 and pt 3 are really offensive, I believe. Pt. 2 is a question of legality, which I don't like but they have rights to ask the legality of something.
How about doubling the number of Marines AND recruiting stations while telling the city where to stick it?
LETS KEEP UP THE HEAT!

Berkley does not need, nor deserve, Federal funds be disbursed into their town. They might as well vote to secede. That would give the valid excuse to have those same Marines take every single piece of garbage politician in that sty into custody and waterboard them.
“WE HATE THE MARINES! ... oh, $2 million in grants? WE DON’T HATE THE MARINES!”
You know what might be a good idea? I could easily see maybe a 1000 Bay area vets showing up for every Berkeley City council meeting and chanting. Hey, hey--- ho ho, Olds and Capitelli got to go!
Think about it. How often does the council actually meet (and there are always newsies there when they do) and how hard would it be to get hundreds of vets in an area as big as that to show up?
I'm sure it wouldn't change they way these moonbats think, but it would make their lives miserable which was their intention for the Marine recruiters.
Contact the local VFW and Am. Legion Posts. Lots of guys would be willing to play.
Yes, but let's not just stop there. I think every branch of service should be properly represented. Pork is a powerful when you're liberal.

Wait don't call the wrong ones saying they don't support the Marines. These 3 are the good guys.
that proposal they wrote was to take it back.
I called my Senators and congressman to pull federal funding. then I called them all and told them that. I was told there were 3 who voted no on that terrible bill. lets give them kudos
Give the others....... HELL!
I like how you think.
Oh, we Legionnaires & V.F.W. members have made our voices heard to the Berkeley,CA mayor & city council members. I posted articles from American Legion & V.F.W. on FR earlier this week.
Wouldn’t you know, there is no American Legion Post in Berkeley, CA. LOL
WHAT? Capitelli is a fool. This is open incitement to riot. If she doesn't want to end up on the wrong end of a liability suit (and just as likely from her own people as the Marines) she'd better stick a sock in it. The city attorney had better be reminding her that she isn't a private citizen here.
OTOH, I can think of better people to threaten than the U.S. Marines. I'm reminded of that Monty Python skit - "Nice little armored division you got here. Be a shame if anything was to happen to it."
We’d have to have a guard mount on it - the local inhabitants would start humping it.
Councilmember Gordon Wozniak, who voted against all the items involving the recruiting station, said he would have to think about the new item.Yes it is intimidation and harassment and your council encouraged and aided and abetted it with your actions. You should all resign"It's not clear a majority of the council will change its viewpoint on this," Wozniak said. "I think the item needs some clarification. I support what they are trying to do. We should also apologize."
Wozniak said he still doesn't like the idea of "giving a parking space to a protest group right in front of the place they are protesting, regardless of whether it's the Marines or an abortion clinic. It's intimidation and harassment."
Well there you have it. That is bigoted and for a member of a controlling government organization to say something like that is patently absurd and not in the best interests of Berkeley, California and the USA.Councilmember Dona Spring said she is not backing down from her earlier position that the Marines should get out of town.
"I'm going to try to work to amend this resolution to make sure we're expressing our full opposition to the military policies and that we do not feel it's appropriate for any military recruiting to be done in Berkeley," Spring said. "I definitely feel the message to the Marines should be, 'You need to go,' and I'm not backing down on it."
This woman should resign or be taken out of office.
Her statements above are the best reason to pull all Federal dollars from the city until they start acting like an American city.
The city council isn't a dictatorship.
Meanwhile, the pro-military group Move Forward America announced in a news release it will stage a daylong protest against the City Council on Tuesday in response to the council's actions last week.
Excellent point. It's like repeating their prior stance with no change. Support the lawbreakers against the Marines.
From the article (which I also posted in #19 also):
Councilmember Gordon Wozniak, who voted against all the items involving the recruiting station, said he would have to think about the new item.More ammunition from their own mouths for a strong lawsuit. They all need to be removed. Send in the Marines. LOL"It's not clear a majority of the council will change its viewpoint on this," Wozniak said.
