Republican Jews assailed U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) for saying he wanted a summit of the United States and Muslim nations.
Obama, a contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, said in a recent interview with Paris Match magazine that he wanted such a summit to start "honest discussion about ways to bridge the gap that grows between Muslims and the West."
That prompted the Republican Jewish Coalition to say in a statement it was "deeply troubled by Senator Obama's desire to 'hold a summit in the Muslim world, with all heads of state' -- many of whom have yet to renounce terrorism or refrain from anti-Semitic incitement."
The statement continued: "Nowhere in the Paris Match article does Senator Obama affirm Israel's right to exist. Nor does he condemn the repeated terrorist strikes against Israel -- the only stable democracy in the region. Further in his interview, Senator Obama said he wanted to listen to the 'concerns' of these nations. For many, their biggest concern is Israel's existence."
Obama in other forums repeatedly has upheld Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state and condemned attacks on Israel. It was not clear from the short article published in Paris Match whether his remarks were edited.
Obama's proposal is not much different from Bush administration outreach in recent years in which Karen Hughes, one of President Bush's closest confidantes, conducted listening and outreach tours in the Arab and Muslim worlds.
One of the Republican candidates, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, cited the RJC statement in a Jerusalem Post op-ed, saying Obama's proposal "deeply troubled" him.
First line should read:
“Both Republican Jews assailed U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) for saying he wanted a summit of the United States and Muslim nations.”
This could become a factor if Obama becomes the nominee.
It says much that both of the Democrats running are suspected of varying degrees of anti-Semitism.
How are you, FRiend?
Under no circumstances can we allow an Obama presidency. It would embolden and strengthen the Jihadis like nothing before. A McCain vs. Hillary scenario is decidedly better than anything involving the Muslim mole. Hold your nose in November and vote GOP. Create a counterbalance to McCain by supporting conservative Congressmen and Senators. Don’t bow down to Obama and his Islamic masters!
I’m OK, I guess. Watching this election with consternation and perplexedness.
Yourself?
The political left has always been a notorious bastion of anti-Semitism. From the Communists and Nazis to our Democrat party and Country-Clubber RINOs (think “Caddyshack’s” Judge Elihu Smails played by Ted Knight).
What I wonder is, if his skin tone was lighter like his mother’s, would he have kept his name as it is now? It seems strange that having no relationship with his father, he would have taken his “blackness” to this level. He is not black, he is not white. He is a combination of both. So why did he keep himself rooted in his “blackness” when his father was really not part of his life?
Many American Jews will give some expressions of Democrat anti-Semitism a pass. Most Jews are cultural liberals. They think Mike Huckabee to be a greater threat than Hamas.
“Karen Hughes, one of President Bush’s closest confidantes, conducted listening and outreach tours in the Arab and Muslim worlds.”
I knew that Bush had a secret weapon: a time machine to go back to the 7th century...but sending a WOMAN to talk to MEN????
Because of the disrespect he has for his liberal, shack-up, self loathing white mom, he gravitates to the current black cultural standard which thinks abandoning your family is ok.
Yeah. Maybe we can find some compromises. Instead of trying to kill all the cartoonists, we can agree to let them kill only half. Instead of using disabled people AND kids as suicide bombers, we can agree to let them just use kids and leave the disabled alone. Instead of destroying ancient Buddhist artwork, we can let them just spray graffiti on it...
What is is white, jew supportin, anti radical islam side? aint got one,all he’s got is the opposite.
Goodies from Affirmative Action programs..
Your attempt at humor is ill-advised. Turns out that the Republican Jewish Coalition, the organization that is the subject of this article, has a membership in the tens of thousands and is growing at a rapid rate. Plus, that membership includes several prominent individuals who hold or have held important polical offices is the past and present. The current President Bush has addressed the RJC on a number of occasions, and most of the 2008 GOP presidential candidates appeared at the RJC candidates forum last fall. The RJC has a national office within a short distance of the Capitol and has over 40 regional chapters around the country.
The RJC national HQ web site is rjchq.org .
These must be tough days for Jewish 'Rats, as they are choosing between two individuals with disturbing histories vis-a-vis Jews and Israel - just as you pointed out.
Hopefully, some of them will come to their senses and switch parties, as a good number have done in the past few decades.
Ping!
Seems as if Obama’s education at an Islamic school in Indonesia has more of an influence on his thinking than he would admit.
