Rep. Darlene Hooley (D-Ore.) announced Thursday that she will not be running for reelection, becoming the first Democrat from a competitive seat to announce her retirement this election cycle.

“I have decided to pursue different professional opportunities in 2009 and will not be filing for election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008,” Hooley said in a statement.

I’ve been voting against her ‘forever’.

She must be greasing the skids for a position in the Hilary/Obama/McCain regime.

**I’ve been voting against her ‘forever’.**

Me too. And I have kept sending her emails that say her votes to not represent me as a constituent forever too!

I just got news about the race- Kevin Mannix, the ex-state Rep. who was nearly elected Governor a few years ago, is thinking of running.

Last I read, Mannix was pondering a run for Attorney-General this year (OR has three offices up, including AG, Sec of State and Treasurer, with all 3 Dem incumbents term-limited out). OR has been without Republicans in statewide office since 2003 when Stan Bunn and Jack Roberts left their respective jobs. Even WA state has 3 statewide Republicans currently, so these should be offices we could target.

Kevin Mannix has run unsuccessfully for a few offices, but he always came close, and he always ran well in his home area. Now, the entire constituancy will be his home area.

Hmmm. The dimocrats would really try not to let Mannix get elected. One to ponder, though.

Catholic and pro-life.

I’d rather have Mannix as the AG, which is an easier launching pad for the governorship. But if he would prefer to run for the House (which would be an easier race, given that the CD is 3% more Republican than the state as a whole and given the district being in Mannix’s home turf), I think Erikson should get out of the race and support the next Congressman from OR.

A much needed vulnerable rat seat. The nation needs the strongest possible nominee.

Hopefully not. We need a fiscal conservative.
