John McCain Triumphs: Conservatives Next Move May be in the Senate
National Ledger ^ | February 7, 2008 | JB Williams

In his speech to CPAC on Tursday, Republican nominee John McCain called himself a life-long conservative. But that’s not what life-long conservatives call him. His speech writers included all the right conservative buzz words. But most of them are at odds with his past performance. So, what now?

"So what now?"

For me, since I'm an Arizona resident, it's pretty simple. I start agitating for Senator McCain to drop out and endorse a strong conservative dark horse candidate at the convention. I will continually remind him that he himself said that it is critical to the good of the country that the Dems not get in the White House and that he must ensure that by making sure a true conservative option is available to the country.

Refusing to do so is putting his own ambition above the good of the country. The country deserves his sacrifice again. I hope that his honor reminds him of this.

And so speaking of Hillary.....

....let’s revisit for a moment the spectre of her possible election.

First, the woman DID vote FOR the war in Iraq no mind her speaking out of both sides of her mouth now that the Moonbat wing of her party should vote for her.

Hill knows that her previous administration played fiddle a little too long whilst Rome burned and I’m not convinced the Hill will just up and pull the troops. I think she’d make a better CIC then...well than Obama, for one. I’m not convinced McCain would be better than her because if no one’s mentioned it yet, this man has a horrific temper. He scares people, I’m serious. Yes, the Hill has a temper but McCain makes her look like a piker.

So...supreme court nominees? Well who’s going to be up to retire? Stevens? Ginsberg? Well these two are so liberal already that even if Hill should appoint liberals to replace, how is this worse? Conservative issues are squeaking through now. The Court might not get any better but I’d argue it won’t get worse. Oh, and don’t forget that the fine, even-tempered McCain said he thought Alito wore his conservatism on his sleeve. What the hell does that mean?

Social issues? What...I’ve not seen any amazing passion by McCain on the issue of abortion. Let’s not forget the man voted AGAINST tax cuts ..”for the rich”. He’s got Schwarz...Crist and a bunch of other libs in the tank for him and he’ll owe them. Any diff between the Hill and McCain on these matters is almost null.

Finally, IF Hill beats McCain, the pubbies in congress will have gotten a message. For I think the concept of conservatives across the fruited plains sitting this election out or voting for Micky Mouse will be widely known by the time McCain loses. thus the senators and reps will know the message. Conservatives in this country might not be a majority (although I think they are, far more than the lib media likes to present), we are a damn formidable group and on occasions, like the non-herding cats we are, we get it into our heads that we’ve had enough. A President Hillary would have to plow through that chastised Republican congress.

If conservatives swallow one more time and vote for this totally unpalatable John McCain, he of the fine even temper, this country will go liberal and will never go back.
John McCain and his so-called Republican enablers, helped by the libs who would rather have had the Hill but can live with McCain, will be emboldened as never before.

It’s my argument and I’m sticking to it.

Even on this form McStain’s support is 18.5%.

That would give John about 9.25% in the general election.

That’s about what he deserves.

re: the low turnout would send a big message)))

If you can vote for a good candidate for Congress or for another office, why wouldn't you turn out?

Learn how to operate the write-in on your ballot, and vote against the bad candidates.

If only we could at least get him to quit the Senate to run, as Dole did.

Then at least we’d get SOMETHING out of this disaster.

I wonder if conservatives everywhere should demand of their US Senator and particularly US Senate candidates that they promise to fillibuster any nominee or maybe just any judicial or maybe even just any appeals court judicial nominee from Clinton, McCain or Obama until the blocked Bush nominees are renominated by whomever the new president is. And if not all of them not to take away the tradition of sitting on lame duck nominees for six months or so, say anyone who was blocked by the Senate for more than a year.

This would be a great act of reconciliation by whomever is the new president of whichever party. This would be a way McCain or even the Dims to build bridges to conservatives.

I live in NJ. Please no sympathy. I will though donate money to any Conservative Republican that is running for the Senate or Congress that Freepers think have a legitimate chance of retaining or gaining a seat.

I can not bring myself to completely sit out the entire election....however, I believe you can vote for everything else on the ballot and not vote for a President. Either that, or write in a name. “Hunter” comes to mind.

I wonder if the RNC would catch the clue if there was massive voter turn out but a curious lack of Republican votes for President. Nah....probably just scream that we’d been dis-enfranchised or some other such BS.

I love the “write-in” option....

The trick would be getting conervatives who have so far been divided between eight other candidates to agree on ONE to write in and get the movement broad enough to have an impact...

How cool would that be?

In his speech to CPAC on Tursday, Republican nominee John McCain called himself a life-long conservative. But that’s not what life-long conservatives call him.

Indeed not. I have started collecting these from around here:

Juan McCucaracha
Juan McNutty
McWhacked
McStain
Juan McLame
John McPain
Juan McAmnesty
McHandGrenade

I'm with you here .......You vote the whole ticket and you vote conservative as you can from the top to the bottom.

As President, If no one Appears to really challenge the Stalinist, the Islamist and The certifiable, I'll be writing in John Galt.

No one should beat you up whatever your decision is. But here's my reasoning: Right now we have 1 left-leaning party, and one at least nominally right-leaning party. Having the left-leaning party in charge for 4-8 years might not be fun, but the right-leaning party will come back.

If we accept McCain, then we'll be changing the nature of the other party. If McCain can be foisted on us this time, how bad is the next Republican going to be?

sit it out and let Hillary have it ?

the low turnout would send a big message

The only message sent would be in every paper in the nation... "CLINTON & OBAMA WIN WHITE HOUSE IN LANDSLIDE, PROMISES WITHDRAWAL FROM IRAQ IN 90 DAYS, NATIONAL HEALTH CARE BY LABOR DAY"

The military will get dismantled (again), taxes will rise, gun control will be Job 1, uber-liberals will be nominated to the courts, nationalized healthcare shoved down our throats, millions of additional illegals will cross the border, dogs and cats living together...you get the picture.

I can't stand by and let that happen, not yet. I'm willing to listen to McCain and see if he follows through. Let's see him tell us who, in particular, he'd nominate for Veep (it had better be a REAL conservative), name a couple more to key cabinet positions, etc. Show, substantively, that he's really not so bad for us conservatives, and he'll get a bunch of votes. Nominate Gomer Huckster or Condi Rice as Veep, and I'm going shooting on Election Day and getting drunk as the returns start coming in - with no stop at the polls in between.
