Laura Ingraham: Romney is "the Conservative's Conservative" [Huh?!]
The Swamp ^ | 02/07/08 | Mark Silva

Posted on 02/07/2008 1:37:38 PM PST by BrerRabbit

"I think the question," she [Ingraham] said to cheers, "is what have you been doing for conservatism lately? Mitt Romney is the conservative’s conservative," she said, suggesting that of all the people who got to introduce candidates at this forum she was the one introducing the conservative.

“You’re talking about ancient history, though.”

You implied that Mitt was having to fake it in Mass, I pointed out that he went in as a non republican liberal.

Bringing up Reagan is ridiculous, a 57 year old politician making an instant change a half century later after being immune to all of the changes that took place over that previous half century is a whole different ball of wax.

Political issues, parties, and accepted wisdom change over time. Reagan, the 6os, Vietnam, Roe vs Wade, etc, etc, Romney chose to be opposed to the march of and the struggles of conservatism until preparing for a new election starting in 2005.

Now he wants us to believe that he is a fire breathing right winger.

I was actually very very concerned about Romney. He had a lot of his own money for the campaign and went to state after state promising billions of dollars of new govt spending and programs that McCain and Fred couldn’t support on principle. I don’t think that was fair and it was certainly not fiscally conservative.
If he had $$$ but really wanted limited govt, I would have no problem with him using the money to sell an idea.

To be fair to her she has been pushing Mitt the Twit all along, either directly or indirectly. Another fine example of voting your hormones instead of critically analyzing all of the candidates. Our elections have become nothing more than looking for the next American Idol. The candidate may not have any brains or real conservatism in their body but they look good, are smooth talkers and have executive hair so they’re the one I support come hell or a real conservative.

Careful there, ansel12. It seems that you’re bothering some people with historical facts they’d rather keep in the memory hole. :)

It’s really very sad when so many supposedly on our side can’t tell the difference between principle from lasting conviction and integrity on the one hand, and posturing motivated by the lust for power on the other.

Sorry, but Romney as “the conservative’s conservative” is an absolute joke, but coming from a major pundit supposedly on our side is, well, I don’t have words for it at the moment.

It seems to be a jab at McCain.

Romney has not flip-flopped any more than the others have. He’s just more conservative than the others are.

Oh yeah, that's like saying that Hitler was a more benevolent dicatator than Stalin.

If Romney cared the least bit for conservatism he wouldn’t have quit and ceded the race to a two bit liberal blowhard like McCain.

I watched it live, and nearly choked on my coffee. The ‘conservative’s conservatives’ all left the race, and all we have had left was yuck and yuck the 2nd.

Laura’s right. It’s a shame a lot of people couldn’t see what she and I saw in Mr. Romney.

What are the politics like in Hungary? I know the women are beautiful, so please tell me they have sane government. And then, let’s head out! ;-)

Conservatives 3rd or 4th choice . . . out of a very liberal field. The conservatives conservative!

What the hell do you know? You just called Huckabee a conservative on another thread.

OK, so maybe the anti-Romney diatribes need to stop. But so do the diatribes about what a great Reagan conservative he was/is and all that he supposedly did in MA that showed him to be the only conservative left in the race. Deal?

hey, as i said, i was a fredhead, who turned to mitt as a last conservative resort.i was never on a soapbox about his conservative virtues. now we are left with the decidedly UNconservative McNut. just GET OVER romney, good grief, he’s out!

now Governor Sanford would be the real deal. he was one of the Newt revolutionaries and a governor of SC. The perfect way to unite the base

Wonderful. You got rid of mitt. Now we're going to have either McCain or a communist.

Talk about putting yourself between a rock and a hard place.

Romney would be a 1000 times better than the former and a billion times better than the latter. Romney fought against Kennedy while McCain jumps in front of cameras to get a picture with him after trying to pass a bill that would give a free home (for them not us) to 12 million illegals.

Ever hear the old saying "be careful what you wish for...you might get it".

You're about to get it...in a place you don't want it.

No, Laura is mistaken. Fred Thompson is the Conservative’s conservative.

Had Laura introduced Ronald Reagan as a conservatives conservative at CPAC in 1975, she would have gotten similar comments to what she's getting here. A former Democrat on his second wife who liberalized abortion and raised taxes more than Romney ever dreamed of doing with fees as Governor of California.

The question is where would America and the world be if we had drummed Ronald Reagan out of the Republican Party.

In the last two weeks, I'd have taken Romney over McCain. But,
Let's be honest. Had Romney not sold his soul to the Liberal cause to be elected Gov of Massachusettes, he'd have won easily. People don't trust someone who has no rock-solid convictions and principles.
