curious as to the wording of the mayor’s apology.

Exactly. The headline seems to be misleading, but nothing has actually changed.

"No apology would have been necessary had the city government not acted so hateful and disrespectfully towards an institution that protects it’s sorry ass and the freedoms these traitorous vermin currently enjoy."

I couldn't agree more. And then the code pink maggots start whining about free speech.

Well, yeah, they have a right to speak any way they want to about our Marines. But what they really want is freedom from any consequences of their speech, and that isn't a right.

Damn, I was looking forward to a Lincolnesque solution to the problem by invading the city, burning it down, and taking away the Berkley’s citizens right to vote for several years.

I don’t they folded. The money should be yanked anyway and the citizens of Berkeley should be declared uninvited and unwelcome intruders into our country. They’d be much happier in Cuba or Venezuela and I sent the mayor an email to tell him so.

Heck they probably won’t even revoke their free parking space and permit to protest.

Come to think of it, if they are so “free spirited,” why are they charging for parking or issuing permits to protest?

I do not know what, if any part, my Feb. 5 Bulletin column played in this. I do know that at least one person echoed the sentiments of it.

Read this quote from Berkeley City Councilman Gordon Wozniak:

“Berkeley is supposed to celebrate diversity and free speech ... We should welcome the Marines. I mean they’re basically dedicating their lives to protect their country.”

Here is what I wrote in my Bulletin column:

“Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates was quoted as saying, “... The Marines don’t belong here, they shouldn’t have come here, and they should leave....Marines do not belong in Berkeley? This is not a very liberal viewpoint. Are not liberals in favor of free speech and freedom of expression? Are they not proponents of civil liberties? The Berkeley mayor believes in the cause of an anti-war group - ergo others, who may be pro-war, are not permitted to function because of this. This is tyranny....The Marine recruiters in Berkeley are offering an opportunity for residents to serve and protect their country. ...Those who walk into that recruiting office know that some day they are going to risk their lives to protect the citizens of Berkeley, Calif. Berkeley’s citizens need to remember this. The troops deserve no less.”

As I said I do not know if what I wrote prompted this. I would like to think it did though - even if it was just a little.

It's amazing what passes for "subtly stated"

Not for a neolib.

Neoliberalism is truly a mental disorder.

Stand by, Mr. Mayor, for the political fallout.

After the hard gamma rays, blast, and heat have done their work, the fallout is just gravy.

You have every right to choose to take the obnoxious anti-military stance you have taken, and as stated, that right was bought for you with the blood of better men than you.

Boy, what a statement, what a statement. Those cockroaches in Bezerkly should be humiliated to no end from the Mayor on down to those City Council leeches . What a travesty!
