I arrived at CPAC this morning around 10:30, the first thing I noticed was several buses from out of town with young McCain supporters taking talking points from old persons.
As I milled around for nearly 2 hours, even did a segement with G.Gordon Liddy. McCain's supports roved the floor after Vice President Cheney's Speech, trying to sale McCain as "A true Conservative and a vote against McCain means a lost of appointments to the federal bench and a chance to work with open minded Democrats!" several operatives tried a number of times to sale me on this point and that McCain is the candidate that can bring all of us together, right!!!
I also noticed that several RLC and Republican groups also had tables at CPAC and were also trying to sale McCain as well.
With all this being said, I can assure you that when the media is trying to sale you on MCCain getting a warm welcome at CPAC, that the room will be filled with his 1,000-2,000 supporters he had bussed or driven in and why do you think he waited to 3pm to give his so-called speech?
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. The McCainiacs would be wise to just go away for a while and let us get it out of our system. I have no doubt that the Democrat candidate will have scared many Conservatives back into supporting McCain by Nov. Right now they are just pouring gas on the fire. We need some time to vent
He brought his own cheerleaders. Why am I not surprised? More sham shows.
Get back in there, TBM. You don't have to boo him - just turn your back (and put a "Just say NO" sticker on)
And that means the CPAC cool-aid as well........
Your post was well written, and I appreciate your thoughts. I cannot agree, however, due to the whole “Party above Principle” tone to it. Not saying that’s your message, it is just that your disagreement with my stance is the most agreeable and calm among some rather unpleasant extreme posts which take your tone and make it explicit.
You have seen others who offer the equivalent of “Party over Principle” time and again. I wish to explain why that will not work as an arguement for many of us.
Being a “Party Member”, giving my “allegience to the Party” or having some argue that my personal decisions are “disloyal to the Party” are all distasteful phrases to me. The lockstep “Party Loyalty Trumps Convictions” mindset I have seen in other posts is repugnant to me. Conservatism rejects collectivism. It promotes individual liberty, individual opportunity, and individual inherent rights.
The phrase “party loyalty” reeks of socialistic groupthink. Recall the atrocities buried under “loyalty to the Party” which have been committed throughout the 20th Century. Remember the evil of those best-known offenders: Communism (international socialists) and Fascism (national socialism). Both brands of leftist thought promoted party loyalty above conscience. Both used party discipline to destroy freedom. Both silenced their critics both small and large by use of that collective non-legislative “crime”.
I will have none of that type of thinking with the people I freely associate with for political goals. If they start with the “party loyalty” bit, then they are the first step to silencing individual critics - which I believe as a conservative is contrary to our founding ideals.
As an aside to those “party loyalists” who are reading this and steaming, if you have used that phrase, or you believe in Party Over Conscience, do not attempt to speak to me. You have already failed because you have no common ground with me. Reflect on that.
Thanks for the opportunity to respond.
Wouldn't surprise me. McCain is a lot like Hillie in that respect, he can't stand being stood up to.
If booing is too rude for folks, I just hope they laugh their butts off at McCain. Thru his entire freaking speech.
I’m for them sitting on their hands rather than applaud. Of course I don’t really expect him to say anything that could be remotely construed as NON-conservative with this speech...I’m sure he’s too smart for that.
That’s funny. Yeah for Laura. Can’t wait to hear her show tomorrow. I hope they replay the speeches. I want to hear Mark Steyn too.
I don't think there is anyplace that he can go. The liberals who backed him in the primary are going to vote for real liberals that McCain keeps sucking up to.
They'll vote for Hillary or Obama instead of him. I don't think he can win without conservatives backing him.
Sooo he needs all of us who he has been stabbing in the back until he wants to be President.
Sticking with you on this Bahbah......Keep hearing that in 9 months I’ll change my mind and vote for McCain. Already been thinking about this scenario for a LONG time now, and believe me, my mind will not be changed! I will never vote for McCain.
McAmnesty is bussing in the CPAC audience? What a staged joke this is! I can’t take the chance someone might boo at me so bring in only McAmnesty maniacs to clap and cheer. Sounds like something Hitler would do.
John McCain Gets Soros Cash
Well, it was always known that "campaign finance reform" (actually, a form of censorship) was Soros' baby, supported by Big Journalism (and why wouldn't Big Journalism like it, seeing as it basically converts "the press" from a right of the people to an aristocracy).
Like you, I will not be changing my mind. I do not have battered conservative syndrome.
“Like you, I will not be changing my mind. I do not have battered conservative syndrome.”
It’s funny, I actually am less upset than I thought I’d be when Romney actually pulled out. Would have loved to see him pull off an upset, but everyone knew that wasn’t realistic. I’m at peace with my decision, so that makes it easier being flamed! ;>)
Just a question but who KNOWS he suffered in prison. Even the other “guests” at the Hanoi Hilton say they seldom saw him. Solitary—he says. Just a question.
..thank you for the report—it’s pretty clear that he has a packed audience...
