Menendez, Corzine eye each other as possible Clinton VP

The Associated Press (Published: February 6, 2008)

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - If Sen. Robert Menendez were looking for a vice president, Gov. Jon Corzine would be on his short list. If Corzine were in the market for a running mate, he'd take a serious look at Menendez.

Whether Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton would consider either New Jersey Dem is anyone's guess.

The subject of Clinton's possible VP came up during a teleconference Wednesday as the governor and senator, both big Clinton supporters, were assessing the New York senator's Super Tuesday victories.

Menendez, who was asked first about a possible VP to Clinton, said Corzine has the experience to lead the country on the major issues of the day - economic growth, health care and ending the war in Iraq.

Corzine chimed in, saying Menendez has the ability to engage new voters in the political process.

If she gets the top spot ... I thing the VEEP will be Obama. That has shown to garner the votes in the Primary.

Oh, if Hillary were to put one of these two sleaze-bags on her ticket, the GOP would have a field day. They would he the Democrats equivalent to Nixon/Agnes.

It will be Obama, or someone from the West. Two Northeast Liberal Senators won’t cut it if the Democrats have hope of winning in November.

Now THAT could almost get me to vote for McCain...

Note the operative word, "almost".

Hillary's not that stupid.

Surely even Mrs. Clinton wouldn’t put that crook Corzine on the ticket.

Yeah, I’d say go for it! Corzine especially doesn’t deliver anything to the ticket. He’s not even popular in NJ.

her heiness has many possibilities

Obama — if she has to

Richardson - Latino vote — most likely

Evan Bayh - if she wants to offset worries to independent voters

Mark Warner - if she wants to steal a Red State

The fact is, she has a deep bench from which to pull.

McCain doesn’t, unless Condoleeza Rice changes her mind,

Pawlenty is great but couldn’t deliver MN last night.

He won't be on her ticket. His ethical standards are too high.

I just don’t see it, aside from what I think are personal animosities between them.

I think Obama will not accept this spot, just as I know Hillary would not in the reverse. What is in it for him?

If she runs and loses (Not at all likely IMO) he’s around to pick up the pieces next time. If she wins, he’s not a part of the disaster that will surely follow.

Plus, he’s free to establish his own base and fill out his credentials. On the outside he would wield much more power than on the inside.

Doesn’t matter who McCain picks he DOA all ready. Anyone who joins his ticket is headed for political oblivion. Hope T-Paw is smart enough to duck when McCain starts calling.

We all know McCain cannot win. Those of us who actually care about our political agenda and want it advanced and are not mindless Party Uber Alles types who treat this as if it were a sporting event know it. We do not watch polls to decide who to support the way McCainiac do. Given the Democrats structural advantage in organization, turn out and money who had a better chance of winning?

Whole Country is in a foul mood. They hate the Political class with a passion. Everyone from the President to the least member of Congress has record low sustained political approval numbers.

The GOP, because they hold the WH, is seen as the party in power.

Given the country’s furious Anti DC mood who has a better chance of winning against Clinton Inc?

A tired broke old 25 year member of the DC Establishment who is running on a Leftist agenda with a long politically corrupt history who virtually no one in the Conservative Movement likes or trusts who’s stated political agenda is to be Democrat Lite

or

an articulate successful business man and former Gov with a $250 million war chest who at least is running on a solidly Conservative agenda who can credibly run a Reagan style “we got to go clean up DC” campaign?

9 months ago according to all the National Polls the only person who could beat Clinton Inc was Rudy G. Where is he now?

That is where the GOP and McCain will be in Nov 2008. The GOP will be lucky to win 10 states. We are going to get massacred down ticket also. The Democrats are fired up. They are going to have huge turnout since it will be the 1st chance in 15 years for them to control the whole Govt. They are like we were in 2000. They will be ground glass Democrats.

The Mods-Indys are NOT going to vote for McCain’s style of Democrat lite politics. The are in a foul anti Establishment mood and McCain is as Establishment as they get. A career old WASP politician. The Mods/Indys are going to vote for the the Democrat real deal over the Democrat Lite GOP brand.

The Conservative/Republican will not be energized and so many will not show up, certainly will not volunteer their time and money to campaign. McCain’s GOTV will be a sad joke. After all, what the difference between one tax hiking big Govt authoritarian Liberal or the other to them. Either way Conservatives get nothing

The GOP are going to get a 1980s style butt kicking in Nov. Only this time the Anti Reagan the Democrats will be running is the one winning the landslide.

Obama? Maybe, but that has risks.

William Richardson? Shady. That name will not inspire the latino vote either.

Bayh? Boring. Won’t upstage Hillary. May be ideal for her.

Warner? No - he’s running for Senate.

The GOP side has a large bench to pull from. Don’t worry.

What is in it for him?

If she loses, he will certainly be the nominee in '12. If she wins, he will go from being a junior Senator to Vice President of the United States, not yet even fifty years old. Come on, it's obvious. The ticket is Clinton/Obama.
