I agree with you. I think our country's future is more important than someone's stubborn adherence to their favorite conservative at this point.
While our country's future hangs in the balance, someone's self-inflated principles are not the #1 priority necessarily. It's not all about them.
It seems conservatives may have missed the last clear chance to avert this disaster.
Had Mitt already dropped out and Fred or Duncan had a chance to win and was the last thing standing in the way of a disastrous McCain nomination, I would have voted for Fred or Duncan. But that's just me.
Anyway, I hope those lofty principles will be comforting when, among other things, we are paying higher taxes, we are hit with cap and trade programs, our tax dollars are funding the destruction of embryos, the terrorists are brought to the US and given constitutional rights and ACLU lawyers, our 1stA rights are infringed further, the 20 million illegals are given legal status overnight and the very next day register as democrats (and that's just if McCain, by some miracle, wins - you can add a whole bunch of other bad things when he doesn't).
Without all these rampant principles gone wild, Mitt could haven won CA and changed the course of this election for the better. Link below shows all the conservatives on the ballot in CA splitting the vote in San Diego county.... all those principles opened the door just enough for a McCain victory (Duncan Hunter made a good showing in his own county -- even beat Fred this time. So?).
John McCain (Rep) 100,359 40.1 %
Mitt Romney (Rep) 95,650 38.3 %

No flames here either, please. I know some of you will never see it that way....
Everyone has to look into their own heart, and make a decision they can live with, based on principles. I don’t fault you for making a different decision. I understand where you’re coming from, but it just wasn’t a choice I could make.
That moves me even more to NOT be a part that kind of thing here in Virginia on Feb 12th.
Yes, except that Crockett didn't walk away from the Alamo.
I regarded Fred as a leader and a conservative hero, and I was looking forward to voting for him. I probably will vote for him but now it's just a hollow protest. Leaders and heroes don't retreat or surrender when the going gets tough.
There is a difference between being under contract and having a committment, and what you said. Fred lived up to his contractual committments.
He still gets residual checks anyway, but he gave up his income for a year.
It does not sound like you were “all for Fred” at all.

I did it yesterday and am not ashamed. It hurt to see Fred’s name there on the ballot, but I had to try to fight McCain in the case that Romney may have needed every vote he got.
Go out and vote for Romney. Fred understands.
Fred Thompson did not betray conservatives. Mitt Romney is no conservative, if he claims to be one now he never was one before.
There is nothing to be ashamed of in supporting Fred, and I am pleased with Fred for not endorsing anyone [up to this point in time]. I’ve never gone to Mitt and I won’t go to Mitt. Nor McCain, nor Huckabee. Your facts are twisted.
Come on, we don’t know all of the facts just yet. Let’s see what comes out in the wash. FRed deserves that much, no?
Besides, if FRed hadn’t campaigned, would Romney be talking about FRed’s Border Plan, and FRed’s Social Security plan?
FRed did bring Conservative issues to the forefront, so I give him his due for that, at the very least. I’d like to see where everything lands when the laundry is shook out. I think the past has given us that lesson. :)
“”Looking at the statistics this morning, it appears Fred got 1% of the vote. Not a lot, but he did as well as he did in New Hampshire when he was still in the race””
He got roughly 4%(over 40K votes) here in California.. almost as much as the Paulbearer. less than 20K difference between the 2, and CA is home to a LOT of Paulestinians.
“After all, why would anyone choke a smurf???”
Because they’re annoying?
only Gargamel knows, and he’s not talking..

Not really.. all of the protest votes added up would not have given Mitt California. The difference was over 200K votes, and Hunter and Thompson combined didnt have that many. Then you’d have to disperse those all evenly among the 53 CD’s in the state. I live in one of the CD’s that appears to be going to Mitt ( CA-21), but there’s just no way that he was gonna take enough to make that much difference. Especially in LA and SF, where the “real money” of delegates is.
“WOW!! Redgirl. Mitt would have beat McCain in SD County, if Fredheads and Dunkheads (9,400 votes) had voted for Mitt!!!!!!!!”
That would give him all of 3 more delegates, though .Not enough to dent the other 150+ that McCain took. Let’s stick with the reality here.
So why post on this thread? If you are not a like minded individual there is no need to be here.
Don’t care that his mother was sick. It is a presumption to think he abandoned the conservative cause, and I don’t buy the MSM talking points like you do, they are not true after all he did. He was probably campaigning in SC while his mother was sick. Gave up income for a year, only got four hours of sleep a night while campaigning in Iowa, he was sleeping in motel6 what little sleep he got. I guess you want him to campaign for 24 hours a day instead of 20, to satisfy your desire. Would that be good enough or does it need to be 30 hours every day?
He hasn’t endorsed McCain and probably won’t endorse him. He said McCain betrayed the Reagan conservatives. If you wish to believe this drivel, believe it on another thread.
Great find! I remember seeing pieces of it when I was stationed in Germany, but I didn’t remember it to be this good.
I’m sure it was. It’s just that I wasn’t good enough to appreciate it then.
Thanks.
BTW, it’s on my hard drive now. LOL
Sure. I should have said he would have won more congressional districts and a higher number of delegates. Anything that would have avoided the perception that he lost California would have been helpful.
With all the bad choices this year, I have no problem with what you are doing. Just please don’t be a cheerleader for Mitt and I can take it. Don’t call him a conservative but less of a problem than McCain I can take. Everyone has difficult choices to make this year.
“He got roughly 4%(over 40K votes) here in California”
That’s a pretty impressive showing for a candidate that isn’t in the race anymore. It makes me wonder what would have happened had Fred stayed in.
