Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) took a swipe Tuesday at GOP senators who have criticized him during the presidential campaign, saying they are not the most respected members of the United States Senate.
McCain, who is the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination heading into the Super Tuesday primaries, was referring to comments made by five-term Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran and former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.).
The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine, Cochran had told The Boston Globe after his endorsement of McCains main rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.
Santorum, another Romney supporter, has also raised McCains temper as a reason not to support him.
The Arizona senator hit back hard at his critics when he was asked about their comments on NBCs Today Show.
And in all due respect to a couple of those people that are criticizing me, theyre not the most respected members of the United States Senate, to be honest with you, McCain said, noting that he has a lot of support among his colleagues.
Cochrans office did not immediately respond to a request for comment
I believe his name is derived from the latin, McAnus. ;-)
Rangel is a congressman not a senator.
And they stole my strawberries.
Thanks, my bad.
That, sir, is what's called chutzpah.
Santorum has repeatly called J.McCain the biggest Republican obstacle to passing conservative legislation he had in the Senate. Whatever way the Republican Senate wished to push a piece of legislation, McAmnesty, would push the opposite.
Bottom line: McAmnesty is a No Conservative !
“And in all due respect to a couple of those people that are criticizing me, theyre not the most respected members of the United States Senate, to be honest with you,”
This from the one GOP Senator who is more respected by the opposition than he is by most of his own caucus in the Senate.
“Santorum, another Romney supporter, has also raised McCains temper as a reason not to support him.”
I could care less what Rick Santorum says.
John McVain, you probably think this election’s about you, John McVain (John McVain), you probably think this election’s about you, don’t you, DON’T YOU?, DON’T YOU?! (with apologies to Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain”)
LOL!
Every time I get a notion that this guy is someone I COULD vote for, he whips it out and pees all over conservatives. I could live with McCain if he'd every once in a while attack LIBERALS. Guiliani was great at it even if I didn't agree with about 50% of his positions.
the Dems or the MSM will push the right button and McCain will have his “Howard Dean moment”...and presto!...Dems take the White-house
Second-graders in public schools are prescribed drugs for displaying behavior more rational than McCain’s.
This guy can not possibly believe he will win in the general. I wonder if he has a deal with the dems for some appointment in the dem administration.
McCain is correct he has the support of every Democrat Senator
“Santorum is a former colleague. He went down in flames in 2006. Hes entitled to criticize McCain but McCain can return in kind. I see no problem with this.”
Yeah...but isn’t this phrase just beautiful...imagine it on billboards across the highways of this great land...
The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine,
The people who know him best tell us not to vote for him.
Arizona has voted against him. His home state thinks he is unfit for the job!
Yet he is still in the lead!
Incredible. The republican party has gone mad!
