This is the press provoking Fred into doing something.
If he says nothing about the comment, then it’s taken for granted that there’s factual basis for the comment.
If he comes out against McCain, then he’s pasted with the ‘morons against McCain or Romney’ label.
To: redtetrahedron
My guess would be that the McCain campaign threw that out hoping that no one could do any fact checking between now and Tuesday. The whores in the media, as they always do with McCain, <Vulgar sexual reference deleted by the poster>.

I’m not a Fred fan but I’m far less a fan of unattributed “news”. Too many people believe the first thing they hear and ignore any further information.

“Thompson and The Huckster are nothing but Stalking Horses for McCain.”
The MittWits continue to spew this tripe when any logical person that understands politics can see they are off 180 deg.
If anything now Huck is bleeding votes FROM McCrazy!
Use your brain. What group of voters make up the vast majority of Huck’s voters?
What group of voters make up the vast majority of voters that are the most opposed to Romney?
Think hard now, it was widely reported early on in the race.
It should be an easy one to figure out if you think.

Sorry, but since your writing in Thompson will result only in helping McCain to become the nominee, then you will be partly to blame.
To: Tennessee Nana
Yes, the first Thompson mentioned in the article is James R Thompson, but the statement about Fred Thompson was copied from towards the end of the article.

I do not see that FT is supporting JM in the story.
Did I miss something?

Thank God there are Fredheads like you, who are willing to see things as they are, instead of as they wish they were. I hope conservatives all over the country wake up tomorrow and come to the realization that Romney is the only hope left to defeat McCain and liberalism. All this over a bogus claim made by some MSM shmoe, with absolutely no substantiation from any other source, perpetuated by a very credulous, gullible, and easily-led tennmountainman?
No offence, but are you an idiot? You reminded me again why I don't respect rabid Mittbots.
To: gruna
Wake up? If you think Romney is not a liberal then I suggest you are off your meds.
To: redtetrahedron
There is a James Thompson supporting JM.

Why wouldn’t McFred endorse McCain? He was his campaign co-chair in 2000. He bragged about co-authoring McCain/Feingold. His heart was never in it. He never wanted to win. His role was to sap votes that might go to Romney. When it became clear he was having no effect on Romney, he bailed.
Huckabee’s refusal to get out of the race, at this point, is further proof that his role is to take religious conservatives who might be tempted to vote for Romney. Plus, it gives him opportunities to take swipes at Romney.
Hunter has proved that he wasn’t the valiant conservative many thought he was. As someone who has established his bona fides by getting the fence built in San Diego he certainly couldn’t endorse McCamnesty, so he did the next best thing...endorse McCain’s stalking horse.
With the whole neo-con establishment aligned against Romney, conservatives should be able to recognize that in spite of his flaws, he’s the only choice. Especially, since Republicans have rejected the most authentic conservative since Ronald Reagan, Ron Paul. So, support McCain/Gramnesty in ‘08 and repeat the unlearned lessons of Ford/Dole of ‘76 or Dole/Kemp of ‘96.

I'm glad I'm not the only Thompson supporter who doesn't see why anyone should assume I prefer Mitt Romney to any of the others. If I do vote for him, it won't be because I think he'll be all that much better than McCain or Huckabee.
Frankly, I think a Romney Presidency will have us looking back at the Bush Administration with almost as much fondness as we look back at Reagan's today.
Also, like you hinted, Hillary's licking her chops at the prospect of running against Mitt Romney. The Democrats view him as the easiest remaining candidate to beat. They're probably right. If he runs back to the left to try and pick up swing voters, he'll be rightly viewed as the worst sort of flip-flopper, one worthy of making John Kerry blush.
