CANTON -- Hope Steffey's night began with a call to police for help. It ended with her face down, completely naked and sobbing on a jail cell floor. Steffey says Stark County sheriff's deputies used excessive force and assaulted her during a strip search 15 months ago, according to a federal lawsuit.

Unless she was pretty drunk. Short term memory suffers when you are drunk.
I didn’t read or hear anything that suggested the order of events at the original scene.
If the cop thought the assault victim was the suspect he would ask for ID.
If the cops are going to investigate, and possibly arrest someone else based on what you say, they need to know who they are talking to.
“Unfortunately, so many Freepers have had one bad experience and paint every cop with the same brush. In truth, I expect better from the people that populate our forum.”
As I have pointed out in a previous post, I was once a cop. It was the 80’s and well before what I see as the root cause of the problem.
The problem is that with the increasing ‘militarization’ of even small town departments you have started to attract, in many cases, a different type of person than you did years ago.
They did indeed existed in the 70’s and 80’s there is no doubt, but I believe that now there are many who ‘join up’ for less than the idealistic notion that they can make their community a safer and more liveable place. I sometimes wonder if the line between traditional “police duties” and what we once regarded as military behavior (and they play by an entirely different set of rules, and for good reason) is becoming a bit too blurred?
“Funny thing, though, they all had ski masks on. I wrote them a letter telling them they looked like a bunch of Palestinian terrorists.”
This illustrates my point perfectly. They no longer view themselves as restricted to a “policing” role. A good many view themselves as “para-military”. And we are viewed as “the enemy’ by more than a few.
Many car cams do not turn on unless the emergency lights are activated.
Your response is childish. Try again.
Ok,
There exists a context to my remarks, out of context I can see why you could misconstrue. However as a former LEO you guys many times tend to take our liberties to lightly. The attitude of “if an omelet is to be made some eggs must be broken” is a common attitude amongst LEO’s. Some of us just don’t agree with the direction this country is taking. I have posted a bit on this thread and I just don’t want to reiterate. However I don’t think it is childish to point out that most people are not motivated by injustice until it affects them in a tangible way.
There were 5 woman and two men. If the 5 woman could not deal with one woman, face down on the ground, in handcuffs maybe they shouldn't be on the force.
My only issue is men should not be a part of undressing female prisoners.
The policeman considers the law as it is in his area. He is supposed to keep the peace and enforce the laws as they have been handed down to him by your elected representatives, and do so in a manner allowed by the courts.
If you’d rather have every cop in your area handling his duties as he sees fit, and what he believes to be constitutional, you’ll have anarchy.
Yes, some cops have and will lie for a variety of reasons. I was instrumental in the termination of two of my officers for lying.
Cops are human. That means that all of them will make mistakes. Some intentional. Those need to be weeded out.
Man did that video make me mad! Those police need to be gone.
Your issue should be broader than the sex of the officers undressing the prisoners.
The broader issues are the laws, regs, over site etc that enables this stuff to happen.
Best Regards
Do not mix me in with your preconceived notions on anything. Do not give me any of this “you guys” crap. I have formed no opinions on this matter because I do not have enough information. I have tossed out a couple of maybes, and that is all.
I do know this. There are a bunch of folks who immediately go into mouth frothing mode whenever there is a story about cop misconduct. Sparse facts or no facts seem to be irrelevant. It is impossible to have a reasoned discussion with them, and apparently, you.
I agree. I have no idea why those two were there. One may always deviate from policy if there is a good reason.
By the way, it has been my personal experience that most females in LE should not be there, and it is virtually impossible to remove them as they are a protected class.
“Theyll be here. Theres a video of their comrads forcibly stripping a woman of her clothes. They dig that kind of power.”
Those cops should be in jail for what they did, but you know how it is, cops protect their own. Jack booted thugs.
This is extremely disturbing behaviour on the part of the police.
I feel safe in saying that my posts on this thread have been very clear on not blaming LEO’s but rather the bigger picture. I am not aware of any “crap” that I have posted. You have used very restrained language up to this point, but I guess I made you mad. Sorry for that. Before you “fire for effect” believe that I see this as a broader problem than just the LEO’s involved. I also probably react more negatively towards the institutionalized abuse of power than you do. I see the problem with our elected officials, and with the people that elect them. For crying out loud we nearly elected Algore as president in this country. You are correct in saying that the LEO community does what the Mayor and city counsel directs them to do. I understand that. I lay the blame there, and at the feet of the people who elect those guys. I also fault the public for laying aside liberties in exchange for freedoms.
No need to start slinging “crap” around though
This post is a good example of “if an omelet is to be made eggs must be broken” mentality. The seriousness of what LEO’s are required to do makes that attitude risky. I Hope I am clear and reasoned enough for you.
Best Regards
Thank you for your answer.
I don't disagree with you. But males should never be involved in removing a womans bra and panties, period. And the women deputies need to follow the law or be subjected to it.
