Election 2008: California Republican Presidential Primary
Rasmussen ^ | February 03, 2008

Posted on 02/03/2008 11:40:39 AM PST by chaos_5

In California, Republican Primary Voters are evenly divided between John McCain and Mitt Romney. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds McCain attracting 38% of the vote and Romney earning an identical 38%. Mike Huckabee is a distant third at 10%, Ron Paul picks up 6%, and 6% say they’ll vote for some other candidate.

Earlier in the week, McCain had a small advantage over Romney. Since then, Giuliani dropped out of the race and endorsed McCain. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also endorsed the GOP frontrunner. While those events may have helped McCain, a conservative backlash for anybody-but-McCain appears to have helped Romney.

Romney leads 42% to 37% among conservative voters while McCain leads by eleven points among political moderates. McCain has a slight lead among men while Romney leads among women.

Eight percent (8%) of Likely Voters say there’s a good chance they could change their mind before voting while another 20% say they might change their mind.

Thirty-two percent (32%) of Likely Republican Primary Voters name the economy as the top voting issue for Election 2008. In California, an identical percentage (32%) now say that immigration is the highest priority. McCain leads by sixteen points among those who see the economy as the top issue while Romney leads by twenty-five among voters focused on immigration.

I wonder how Schwarzenegger and the gop establishment in California will rig it so Romney votes disappear and McCain votes magically appear.

I think you are right, Huckabee may be the spoiler right now. Since McCain has no social conservative credentials, and Mitts are weaker than Huckabees. With this logic, I would argue that the very strong social conservative would rather go to Romney than McCain.

You’d have to look up the assignment by the CAGOP. I don’t know. Most of the time they assign the at large to the overall winner, some do it proportionally, etc. Normally the 3 executive members go as unassigned...

Got a call from the CRP earlier in the week, before Schwartzenliberal endorsed McInsane, asking for money because Arnold has vowed not to raise taxes and needs our support.

I told her I heard he intended to raise Vehicle registration fees....after a long pause she told ne that those were fees and not a tax.

I told her to call back when she got unstupid!

If Cali remains split, and Romney is able to hold his own across the nation on Teusday, this race will be FAR from over. My own state may come into play later this month.

McAmnesty has a reverse Midas effect. Everything that touches him turns to sh*t.

....Romney may end up with the majority of delegates.

&&&
I sure hope so!

Geez! Even if one was so uninformed as to not know about McCain’s shamnesty bill and his public criticism of the conduct of the war in Iraq, I would hope a real conservative would be turned away from him just by learning that 2 of his endorsements had come from the NYT and Governor Arnold Kennedy.

Yeah, and I noticed that they made sure they had their guy McCain on just in time for Super Tuesday. Grrrr.....

Romney leads 42% to 37% among conservative voters while McCain leads by eleven points among political moderates.

This sentence says it all. It all comes down to whether we want the conservative voice to be heard or the moderate voice. What say you, California GOP?

A US Senator endorsed a fellow US Senate club member? I’m shocked! Who saw that coming?

So it’s distinctly possible that, say, Nc Vain can win a few districts big, but Romney can win more districts but win them narrowly, leaving McCain the “winner” even though Romney gets more delegates?

And teh media will never understand it.

Or the word is getting out about Cindy and Daddy Boozebucks.

Now that the Giulianis have dropped out, I guess Cindy has the clear path to First Mistress.

If there were no Huckabee, most of his votes would go to Romney.

Which is why he is still in the race.

Good grief. After Arnold's performance California Republicans should go for whoever is opposing his endorsement.
