Do Americans envy Canada's healthcare system?

If you want to know what Americans think, try being a Canadian voice on their radio dial.

In search of election fever, I am sitting in the downtown studio at 590 WVLK, Lexington's most tuned in talk radio station — but the disembodied voices coming through my worn headphones want to know more about Canada's "free health care" system than rattle on about their own presidential election.

"I haven't made up my mind on Bahama, or whatever his name is," says Jim, a caller who's joined a loud chorus who believe Republican John McCain is a liberal in wolf's clothing.

Outside of the studio, during a break, Wylie reasons: "There is a sense of distaste that whoever is elected, there won't be much change."

What is perhaps ticking Wylie off is her listeners crowding in to ask about the wonders and worries of universal health care, rather than today's focus on the race to the White House.

"How much in taxes do individuals pay for universal health care in Canada ? " ...

Others rave about Canada's natural beauty.

But at least one caller wants to know the Canadian government's position on protecting the U.S. border...

Nothing stirs the pot like American talk radio.

If you’re smart or have health insurance: no.

Otherwise: yes.

I would like to sign a reciprocity agreement with you. If it gets too warm down south, come on up. If we get an ice age instead, we get to move south.

Well, I lived there for four years and personally knew friends who would have died had they had to wait to get treatment in Canada. Fortunately for them, Vermont was a 3 hour drive.

Do Americans envy Canada's healthcare system?

Many Americans envy the illusion created in their minds of "free" healthcare in Canada.

Those same individuals have no clue that, when Canadian healthcare rationing puts a Canadian's life in jeapardy, that Canadian gets his @ss to an American medical center to get the timely healthcare that is being denied to him in Canada.

Canada's Medical Nightmare

Yes, we envy being out on waiting lists for years for the most rudimentary of medical services.

Do Americans envy Canada's healthcare system?

How many Canadians come the US to get treatment that they cant get (at least in a timely manner) at home? How many Americans head in the opposite direction for the same reason?

Case closed

The US waiting lines at “emergency rooms” for uninsured patients are shorter than the waiting lines at Canadian hospitals.

The greatest product of the Canadian health care system is the waiting line. Of course if you envy that, you can just wait 6 months, then show up at your doctor.

Americans in northern Florida in coats are apparently curious to see Canadians swimming in the ocean in the winter.

50 degree F water must have different perspectives ?
