HUNTSVILLE, Alabama (CNN) White House hopeful Mike Huckabee denied the Republican presidential race had narrowed to two candidates, Mitt Romney and John McCain, telling journalists at an Alabama campaign stop Saturday that if anybody ought to be quitting, it's Mitt Romney.
John McCain hasn't suggested I step aside. So if Mitt Romney's going to engage me, which he has, then I feel like the engagement is on, said the former Arkansas governor.
If I'm ahead of him in places like Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee, then he needs to step aside and let me in fact be that conservative alternative than he says we need.
Romneys campaign spent much of the early voting season attacking many of his opponents, including Huckabee. And Huckabee has been a fierce critic of the former Massachusetts governor, regularly criticizing him in presidential primary debates and on the campaign trail.
In Huntsville Saturday, Huckabee dismissed the idea that John McCain was an inevitable Republican nominee, pointing to the fact that more than 90 percent of the GOPs delegates were still unspoken for.
Huckabee, who began to focus on Bible Belt states like Alabama while his GOP rivals were still battling for Florida, repeated recent comments that his campaign was setting its sights on a win there. And frankly, I don't know of anyone that should win it more than me, he said.
Most recent Alabama polls show Huckabee in second place there, behind John McCain and ahead of Mitt Romney, with just days to go until the states February 5 primary vote. The former Baptist minister is continuing his primary season pattern of making many of his campaign stops visits to local churches.

Governor Huckabee recently described Romney as a” man who didnt hit political puberty in the Conservative ranks until he was sixty years old.
Now THAT is funny. Of course it is pot and kettle.
Right, Huck, call for the guy who is ahead of you to get out.
This is a perfect example of Huckabee’s ability to reason. I’m distressed he was able to con Duncan Hunter.

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, had 59% of the vote with 3% of the towns holding caucuses reporting. Ron Paul trailed with 19%, John McCain had 18%, and Mike Huckabee and undecided votes each had about 2%.
Miguel Huckabito
I’d love to see Mitt take a breather and then take on Yon Kerry or, please God please, Ted.
He already has placed money in a trust for his kids, so they don’t have to worry about anything.
If that's the case, then Huckabee is a castrati.
Huckabee is the one who needs to step aside. Only he needed to do it a month ago.
Something stinks...and it's not just McCain's pro-Amnesty nonsense.
He, can’t blame the guy for trying. I personally think all three should quit.
Probably. Huck’s route to the VP, I reckon.
Another case of PKB. Huck makes me sick.
Mormons are, by and large, sizable populations in the west and not in the south. That said, Romney has been getting the votes of more than 50% of evangelical Christians in the primaries so far.
Man, lots of Romney hate from these two clowns (McCain and Huckabee).
I almost feel sorry for the guy! That said, if you are judged by the enemies you make — I’d be pretty proud to be Romney today.
Clearly Huckabee hasn’t heard of the term hubris. But such a humble man in Christ he is!
Yes, but no criticism for his BB McCain. Bucking for a job in the white house. This is not someone who is caring about the country. His strategy is a personal vendetta. That is classless and shows the man is not a leader, but like McCain petty and small.
They hate Romney because he is smart, articulate, expansive, experienced, good looking, focused, hard working, kind, presidential, conservative while taking on hard issues such as health care with private business solutions.
In the end both McCain and Huckabee care only about their small little resentments and not what is best for Americans. McCain we already know this and why, but Huckabee shows it the most when he tries to shine a light on Mitt and take him down and gives the worst apple of the bunch a pass (McCain) leaving the worst apple in line to ruin our country if elected.
If Huckabee would have spent more time going after McCain's true record, many would never want to vote for McCain. If Huckabee doesn't have the gonads to go up against McCain how can he go up against Mr. Iran, and Mr. Bin Laden? He can't pure and simple. Romney is the only man that has shown he has the gonads to go up against Mr. throwing his "I am Senator" power around. Mitt is a real leader that does care about this country and where it is headed.
Yep. he’s awful. Just like the other two bozos.
Amen to that.
Mitt is just as much a charlatan as these two. With just a few more flip flops tossed in.
