Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, had 59% of the vote with 3% of the towns holding caucuses reporting. Ron Paul trailed with 19%, John McCain had 18%, and Mike Huckabee and undecided votes each had about 2%.

Wonder why you said 7 years? If I remember correctly John McCain campaigned for GW in 04... So maybe you meant that Sean Hannity told you that McCain has been against Bush policy for 7 years....
John McCain did tell Bush that his Iraq strategy was flawed and that moore troops were required... and in fact McCain was right. So if you want to say McCain was against Rumsfeld that would be legitimate...but...
If you buy into all that McCain blocking Bush judge nominees you are just ill informed on the issues..
Anyway my only point is that we as Conservatives should take a candidate on their merits...
1. If Romney is a good candidate then Promote Romney’s record don’t tear down McCains...
of course politicians make mistakes... Reagan granted Amnesty to millions of illegals giving them citizenship... at the time he thought it would solve the problem and was a good idea but it back fired.... McCain promoted a plan to deal with Illegals that was a version of Amnesty too but that was before Conservatives made Amnesty a four letter word... I am sure McCain has had a change of heart on the issue too...
Romney was never made to stake a position on Amnesty before it was unpopular... So lets look at both candidates fairly before we judge who is more or less Conservative then the other.
Besides
Politics of personal destruction turn much of the electorate off.
Don’t worry, resty. All their vile posts against Governor Romney have done more to promote Romney’s candidacy than all of ours combined.
If Romney is a good candidate then Promote Romneys record dont tear down McCains
“We do not vote for demorats”
Huh some Romney supports here said exactly that they would vote for Democrat or sit out (essentially the same thing)..
Even Ann Coulter is onboard with it...
But not a single McCain supporter says that ... WHY?
McCain campaigned for Bush in 04... McCain was celebrated on this forum as recently as last year...
Nobody started bashing McCain until Sean and Rush told you too...
Lemming..
HUH... Vile posts against ROMNEY?
Ask yourself this question why do so many have to tear down McCain... Who is trying to influence whom?
There are vile comments about your candidate, which I'll leave for his suppporters to handle. However, unlike you, I wouldn't attempt to deny it.
I am watching Fox & FRiends and they just commented that Mitt is leading in a poll for CA.
You’re not a newbie, by a long shot. What’s your excuse for not pinging Tennessee Nana when you mentioned her?
Not that I would buy one for anything at all.
Stop living in the past.
McCain, once a conservative, is now a full-bore liberal.
Romney, who once made a few pandering PC statements in a liberal state, has shown himself to be a wonderful, proud conservative promoter.
People change. It’s the law of human dynamics.
Go Romney!
Sorry, this is simply not true. McCain lost favor here when he opposed the Tax cuts, when he pushed McCain-Feingold and when he pushed McCain-Kennedy...not to mention his abject support for the global warming sham. Nobody needs to tell anyone here that such positions, particularly on the 1st amendment and on our soveriegnty with amnesty were bad for America.
It may not fit with your own reasoning why so many on FR do not support McCain, but it's the truth.
Most of us are down to 3rd or 4th choices in this election cycle. There are NO strong or really good conservatives running. We are all being forced to choose from what is left over and so there is quite a bt of divergence.
We have to look at people's records and choose the one we are most comfortable with out of a pack that does not have good ones. That means we have to assess the good and the bad of each candidate, compare them, and then come down on the candidate we feel will best maintain some symbolance of balance.
People all over the country are doing it...here on FR, in Maine, and in a bunch of places on Tuesday.
I have picked Romney now as my distant 3rd place candidate. I am not happy that I have been put in that position, but there it is. I believe he has the best chance to stop McCain in the GOP, and also the best chance against either Hillary or Obama...who would even be much, much worse disasters.
Apparently a large number of FR members and lurkers agree. Apparently a large number of people in Maine agree. Those two may not make any difference in the end, but I am glad to see it anyway. Still, Romney has a huge mountain to climb between now and the convention.
Rife Madson Location: Al Anbar, Iraq Date: Feb. 3, 2008 - 8:21 AM EST -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am very disappointed with talk radio and many of the conservative talking heads. Campaigning and opposing a candidate is one thing, and is part of healthy political discourse. However, refusing to support the nominee of your party during the general election, in a time of war no less, is disgraceful. We have been slamming the left for a few years now about their constant defeatism and negativity. We accuse them of wanting the US to fail, wanting the economy to slump, wanting the US to lose in Iraq, because doing so would hurt the GOP and help the liberal cause. Now, we have members of our own party doing essentially the same thing. We have Ann Coulter vowing to vote for Hillary Clinton, with the hope that she runs the country into the ground and mismangages the war so much it causes a massive backlash and returns the power to the conservatives. In essence, conservatives are willing to surrender the war in Iraq, and the war on terror based on a dislike for John McCain. I am hoping that this is hot air, and that once McCain is officially the nominee they come to their senses and support him. The stakes are too high to play politics when we risk Hillary Clinton as Commander in Chief. As an OIF combat veteran, I plead with you to not allow this to happen. Too many have sacrificed to win this war to give it away because we don't agree with a man's position on global warming or campaign finance reform.
You're missing the biggest issue of them all and that's open borders and amnesty. The "war on terror" will be meaningless if the country is ever handed over to the millions of invading lawbreakers as McCain wants to do. He didn't even want to deny gangbangers and other assorted thugs visas and to be provided with social security benefits. He cursed and belittled the Senator who would even dare attempt such a radical idea of deporting them. You bet, let's all go pull the lever for this clown, after all Hillary is so much worse.
Clinton: Im In Favor Of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, Which Includes Tightening Our Border Security Getting The 12 Million Or So Immigrants Out Of The Shadows. CLINTON: Im in favor of comprehensive immigration reform, which includes tightening our border security, sanctioning employers who employ undocumented immigrants, helping our communities deal with the costs that come from illegal immigration, getting the 12 million or so immigrants out of the shadows. Thats very important to me. After 9/11, weve got know whos in this country. And then giving them a chance to pay a fine, pay back taxes, learn English, and stand in line to be eligible for legal status in this country. (MSNBCs 2008 Democratic Primary Presidential Debate, Orangeburg, SC, 4/26/07)
In March 2006, Romney Said He Did Not Believe In Rounding Up 11 Million People And Forcing Them At Gunpoint From Our Country. Romney said illegal immigrants should have a chance to obtain citizenship. I dont believe in rounding up 11 million people and forcing them at gunpoint from our country, Romney said. With these 11 million people, lets have them registered, know who they are. Those whove been arrested or convicted of crimes shouldnt be here; those that are here paying taxes and not taking government benefits should begin a process towards application for citizenship, as they would from their home country. (Evan Lehmann, Romney Supports Immigration Program, But Not Granting Amnesty, Lowell [MA] Sun, 3/30/06)
No he's not, that's another one of those "tell people what they want to hear" promises until he gets in. Mr. Lettuce is a cheap labor pimp who'll do everything in his power to see that Amerians are undercut at every turn. His record, not his words speaks for itself.
