BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Female suicide bombers blew themselves up Friday at two markets in Baghdad, killing at least 64 people and wounding more than 100, authorities said.
One bomber struck at a popular pet market around 10:30 a.m. in central Baghdad, killing at least 46 people and wounding 82, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said.
The second blast happened about a half-hour later in a southeastern Baghdad market, killing 18 and wounding 25, according to the Interior Ministry.
In both bombings, the attackers were wearing suicide vests, according to Qasim Atta, a spokesman for the Baghdad security plan.
Atta told state TV that both women were mentally disabled and their explosives were remotely detonated.

How can I find the way?’ Before I answer, let me say: Has it occurred to you that the very first Muslim who had the privilege of becoming a martyr was a woman, [namely] Sumayya bint Khayyat? She was cruelly tortured by the leader of the infidels, the bitter enemy of the faith, Abu Jahl, but remained steadfast in her religion and faith... She spat in his filthy face, leaving him no choice but to draw his sword and stab her, and then her pure body was cast in the desert of Mecca, while her pure soul ascended to Paradise... Take her example, sister. She had the honor [of becoming a martyr] before the [first] man had [this honor]. Allah does not prevent us from... following in her footsteps.
“Sister, do you fear the horror of death and the agony of dying? [Know that] the pain felt by a martyr as he is killed is like the pain of a [wasp’s] sting. Having heard this, are you still afraid to dare? Don’t you wish such an end - an easy transition from this world to Paradise, without pain or agony?... Since death is inevitable, why should we not leave this transient [world] in our best capacity, [that is,] as martyrs? “

Fair question. But I suppose there were people around that knew them?
I cannot imagine the blackness of a heart that could take such advantage of someone like this. A mentally retarded person trusts people so instictively and of course is so naive to the evils of the world. What an unspeakable evil.
If they know who the women are, it would make sense for investigators to investigate their backgrounds.
And since that would including interviewing folks who knew them, perhaps those folks were able to identify them as retarded.
The remote detonation is the clue there.
Some of the Palestinians that drove “suicide” car bombs in Israel had their hands tied to the steering wheel and were tied into the vehicles.
