Mitt Romney gave 18 million dollars of his own money to his campaign in the last three months of 2007. In total, he has poured 35 million dollars of his personal fortune into his campaign.
The Romney camp also reported raising 9 million dollars in donations in the fourth quarter equaling 53.5 million dollars for the entire year. The campaign spent 33.8 million during the last 3 months of the year equaling 87.6 million dollars spent in 2007. The camp reports having 2.4 million dollars cash on hand at the end of the year. The campaign did not release any numbers for January meaning that Romney may have donated even more than 35 million dollars to his campaign.
The camp launched an aggressive ad blitz today signaling that former Massachusetts governor may have used more of his vast wealth, which is estimated at upwards of 250 million dollars.
Campaigns were required to file their end of the year finance reports today with the Federal Election Commission.

The limit any one person can contribute to a candidate before the general election campaign is $2300, thanks to the front-running Sen. McCain and our lame-duck Pres. Bush.
Even if those 1000 FReepers gave the max, Romney would have only $2.3 million.
In order the get the kind of money it takes to be competitive, Romney would need hundreds of thousands of donors, all giving less than the statutory limit.
In short, he doesn't and he's not.

The Huck took in some $6.6 million and had some $1.9 million on had at year end. Don’t know where he getting the donors but they are coming from somewhere. He has no debt obligations based on FEC filing.

What makes you think the Huckabee followers would go to Romney? Many/most are convinced he is a flip-flopper who pays only lip service to issues they care about while promoting the opposite agenda.
I saw Chuck Norris in an interview the other night for Huck, and it was sad. Norris is obviously a nice man, but not too bright. I’m actually ashamed to say it surprised me. I bought into the whole Chuck Norris “thing”.

Well, that’s a spiteful response. I thought conservatives encourage the sort of individual achievement that results in the wealth that this man has accumulated in his life. I think he’s willing to spend as he has on this level because he believes in his acumen and will be able to earn more to replace it in the future if he is so inclined.

I don’t care how much money Romney makes. I do care that his money is the only thing that makes him a viable candidate. If not for his money, he would never have been anything but a second-tier candidate.
