Seven good reasons to support Mike Huckabee [be sure to read reason number seven]
The dark and jumbled recesses of my aging feeble brain | January 31, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/31/2008 2:09:25 PM PST by Jim Robinson

My friends, I have to admit that I've been in a bit of a quandary since the Real Conservatives ® Thompson and Hunter dropped out of the race leaving us to to place our bets on one the four headless horsemen. But after having a day or three to sort it all out, I'm beginning to see a ray of hope.

Number one, my worst fear that the pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun social liberal Rudy Giuliani might be nominated, and thereby bring an abrupt and unholy end to the pro-life conservative movement within the GOP has been allayed. His evil culture of death platform has been soundly rejected by the Republican voters. Thank God! If nothing else is gained, that alone is a huge victory for us!

And that leaves us with the unwelcome slippery task of having to determine and select the least evil of the three remaining RINOs. But wait! When choosing between evils, why not choose the good?

McCain is insane and there are many good reasons not to choose him, but I'll list just five: McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman, the Keating 5, and the Gang of 14. No thanks. McCain is out!

Romney ran on a pro-abortion platform, is pro gay rights, is prone to BIG government solutions, promises anything to anyone for a vote, and flip-flops on important issues. Can't trust him.

Now Governor Huckabee. Could this be the good vs evil? He's a Baptist minister. A genuine 100% pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, Southron Christian social conservative!

And that would be my reason no. 1 to support Huckabee. He has the trust and backing of the Christian evangelicals and the support of the Bible Belt. You cannot win the presidency without the South, and I believe the pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-America Mike Huckabee is the most likely of the three GOP hopefuls to carry the South. And that's a pretty darn good reason!

My number two reason is that he is NOT McCain (and that's a pretty darn good reason too).

Number three (and this will be a tough one for a lot of my FReeper Friends) is that he is NOT Romney.

Numbers four and five are he's NOT Hillary and NOT Obama. Oohrah!

Number six, he plays a mean bass and he's a traditional favorite at Free Republic's infamous quadrennial Inaugural Balls in Washington, DC. Perhaps we could persuade President Huckabee to drop by our ball and perform his rocking rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama!" Now, wouldn't that be a hoot!

Number seven, if we can keep Huckabee in the race all the way through, thus preventing McCain or Romney from gaining enough delegates to win the nomination, then maybe, just maybe a deadlocked convention might seek out another candidate. One who can re-unite the Reagan Coalition, save the GOP, and put us back on the conservative track. Of course, my personal favorite to be that man would be FRed Thompson.

Woo hoo!!

Let it ring out through grassroots America and on to the convention! Support life! Support the GOP! Support Huckabee! And re-draft FRed Thompson!!

Never give in, never give up, and never lose hope.

Long live the Reagan Revolution!

I concur, but if we could get Thompson or Hunter back into the race our country will be best served. The MSM is selecting our nominee for us and we must eventually make a stand, if for other reason than for the sake of the principles and ideals our nation was founded upon. The liberal MSM needs McCain to be the nominee. I've heard several Dem operatives openly state when asked, that McCain was the Repub candidate the Dem's desired to run against. He is the easiest to beat. He believes Hillary will make a great President

I’m sorry but I think the fix is in. I’d love to see Fred (or even Cheney) get a brokered nomination but I’m voting for Mitt on Super Tuesday. I just may pull a Coulter if McQueeg is nominated which looks like what the republican overloards have decided and Huckleberry may be in his McCrazy's cabal.

"Did you know that the RNC contributes nothing to any candidate until he is the nominee?"

Interesting. Didn't know that.

Sorry, it’s true: just use google, you twit.

As governor of Arkansas five years ago, Mike Huckabee joined a bipartisan chorus of politicians who concluded that the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba was bad for businesses, harmed the people of Cuba, and was thus “un-Christian.”

He has since had had flip-flop of Romneyarian proportions on this issue.

The part about harboring illegals is so well known, it’s not even worthy of dispute.

Huckabee doesn’t have a snowball’s chance of winning anything except the VP slot with McCain...and that is what he is after.

And it appears that is what he is getting.

I had the privilege of attending the 2 "Free Republic’s infamous quadrennial Inaugural Balls" in Washington, DC.with the Huckabee Band.

As far as I know, on those occasions he never suddenly switched gears from classical to rap to country-western to whatever else seemed most popular at the moment.

That's one reason I like him better as a musician than as a politician.

I just couldn’t resit giving a moron like you specific examples of Huckabees coddling of illegals:

When he was governor, Huckabee held the following positions on illegal immigration:

1. He supported higher education benefits for children of illegal immigrants,

2. opposed a federal roundup of illegals from his state in 2005,

3. opposed a 2001 bill requiring proof of citizenship to vote in the state

4. Also in 2001, pushed for legislation to grant driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.

Not much different than Obama.

it is interesting to consider what effect a brokered GOP convention would have on the election

If they pick anybody but the candidate who came in with the most delegates (possibly as determined by last-minute deals with second-tier candidates like Paul and Guiliani), a large number of voters will feel that their guy was robbed and sit out the election.

That leaves inexperience in foreign policy & not the best position on education and a poor track record on how he released some folks who should have remained behind bars.

In other words, he is weak to the point of ineptitude on the two vital functions of government -- foreign and domestic security.

No thanks.

What will the Dems use to hit the Repub candidate over the head? Try...
Iraqi quagmire
Nationalized Health Care
The economy (sub-prime mess, unemployment, etc)
History making, first Female/Black candidate
(These are some pretty big clubs.)

What have we got to hit back? Try...
Victory in Iraq (still pending) kick Islamofascist butt where ever it resides.
Lower taxes (not permanent yet, dump the AMT)
Smaller government (oops)
No Amnesty- seal the border yesterday
The Right To Keep And Bear Arms
Pro-life, anti-Gay agenda.
Just say No to dynasties
Rallying speeches do not, a president make.

Whoever gets the nomination will have a real fight on their hands. They'd better be able to utilize each of these 'clubs' effectively. To borrow from a Golf analogy, we'll need a Tiger Woods from the tee to green this time around. Which of our guys will look best in a green jacket?

This is the reality in my state (NY). The GOP (such as it is) was evidently successful in getting Thompson and Hunter off the ballot. They started this in order to promote Rudy, but now that he’s out, they are pushing McCain. Unfortunately, neither Thompson nor Hunter had a big following here and it would appear that Romney isn’t going to bother too much with Super Tuesday states. McCain WILL get the 101 delegates, no matter what I do.

There is no way Romney can win here (if there was, I’d vote for him) and there is no way I can support Huckabee, who will drop out and endorse McCain, so I’m back to my only option, which is to write-in Fred.

I’m thoroughly disgusted, but my vote won’t end up meaning a thing.

Missouri Right to Life endorsed Huckabee. I still don’t know what I’m going to do on Tuesday. I heard Thompson was still on our ballots. I’m torn between feeling like I’m throwing a vote away but voting for who I really want to and plugging my nose and doing what I think will actually help Conservatives. *sigh* I’m not excited about voting anymore.

John Wilke will have to answer to God....as will all of us.

He's responsible for his decisions/actions/endorsement...

..I'm responsible for my decisions, etc.

However, more weight is given someone who was percieved as principled leader & a defender of the unborn.

How he can approve/endorse this man who is abortion minded to his very core, I don't know.

I leave him to answer to God.

Man will fail me....God never will.

I have concerns that Huckabee is a softy on the issue of illegals and also on the issue of the GWOT. Those are 2 out of my top 3 issues (the remaining 1 being gun rights, which Huckabee seems fine on).

Good mercy, now I HAVE heard it all.

Comparing Mitt Romney's flip flop to Saul's conversion on the Damascus road....

...that, in my opinion, is blasphemy!!

Once again you’re comparing Romney’s worst case scenario to some perfect candidate’s best case scenario.

Of course there is some risk with Romney, and of course there is a down side.

But McCain IS Romany’s worst case scenario, with no upside.

Huckabee is a liberal tax raiser and a liar who smears others (after saying he didn’t hve any intention of doing so), lies about other people’s records (just like McCain), and can’t win this race. He’s fundamentally dishonest.

I can’t imagine why he’s staying in, unless it’s to split conservative votes, ensuring McCain’s victory and getting the #2 spot on McCain’s ticket.
