Seven good reasons to support Mike Huckabee [be sure to read reason number seven]
The dark and jumbled recesses of my aging feeble brain | January 31, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/31/2008 2:09:25 PM PST by Jim Robinson

My friends, I have to admit that I've been in a bit of a quandary since the Real Conservatives ® Thompson and Hunter dropped out of the race leaving us to to place our bets on one the four headless horsemen. But after having a day or three to sort it all out, I'm beginning to see a ray of hope.

Number one, my worst fear that the pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun social liberal Rudy Giuliani might be nominated, and thereby bring an abrupt and unholy end to the pro-life conservative movement within the GOP has been allayed. His evil culture of death platform has been soundly rejected by the Republican voters. Thank God! If nothing else is gained, that alone is a huge victory for us!

And that leaves us with the unwelcome slippery task of having to determine and select the least evil of the three remaining RINOs. But wait! When choosing between evils, why not choose the good?

McCain is insane and there are many good reasons not to choose him, but I'll list just five: McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman, the Keating 5, and the Gang of 14. No thanks. McCain is out!

Romney ran on a pro-abortion platform, is pro gay rights, is prone to BIG government solutions, promises anything to anyone for a vote, and flip-flops on important issues. Can't trust him.

Now Governor Huckabee. Could this be the good vs evil? He's a Baptist minister. A genuine 100% pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, Southron Christian social conservative!

And that would be my reason no. 1 to support Huckabee. He has the trust and backing of the Christian evangelicals and the support of the Bible Belt. You cannot win the presidency without the South, and I believe the pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-America Mike Huckabee is the most likely of the three GOP hopefuls to carry the South. And that's a pretty darn good reason!

My number two reason is that he is NOT McCain (and that's a pretty darn good reason too).

Number three (and this will be a tough one for a lot of my FReeper Friends) is that he is NOT Romney.

Numbers four and five are he's NOT Hillary and NOT Obama. Oohrah!

Number six, he plays a mean bass and he's a traditional favorite at Free Republic's infamous quadrennial Inaugural Balls in Washington, DC. Perhaps we could persuade President Huckabee to drop by our ball and perform his rocking rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama!" Now, wouldn't that be a hoot!

Number seven, if we can keep Huckabee in the race all the way through, thus preventing McCain or Romney from gaining enough delegates to win the nomination, then maybe, just maybe a deadlocked convention might seek out another candidate. One who can re-unite the Reagan Coalition, save the GOP, and put us back on the conservative track. Of course, my personal favorite to be that man would be FRed Thompson.

Woo hoo!!

Let it ring out through grassroots America and on to the convention! Support life! Support the GOP! Support Huckabee! And re-draft FRed Thompson!!

Never give in, never give up, and never lose hope.

Long live the Reagan Revolution!

Romney is a NE liberal puke and by far the worst of the candidates still in the race!

Yeah, Romney’s a pretty convincing fellow. He was pretty successful at convincing the voters of his position when he was running for governor as well:

I think he’s a better actor than Fred Thompson. Switching rolls and scripts like that must be pretty confusing. Gotta be good to be so convincing to both ends of good vs evil. They don’t call him Slick Williard for nothing.

Our primary is in April. (Pennsylvania). A lot can happen between now and then. Other than a definite ‘NO’ to McCain, my mind is not made up. Your plan could work (though I’d rather see Hunter than Thompson in a brokered convention)

We shall see.

No thanks. The ONLY thing Huckabee is conservative on is pro-life. As a minister he supported gays in the clergy.

At least Romney is saying the right things now. I’d rather have someone who doesn’t have a backbone and is on our side, than somone who has a backbone and is dead set against us. Romney will be another Bush except his strong point is the economy. With all Bush’s faults he was still better than McCain.

A vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain.

Remember Gideon and how many God told him it would take for God to have ‘victory’. We have already been told who has the victory... I will never leave you nor forsake you.. I count on that.

"He's a grown man in a public setting making emphatic statements."

He was a conservative politician trying to get elected governor in a very liberal state. His people ran the numbers, they knew he could win on all the other campaign positions but being a pro lifer in Massachusetts was a death blow.

I don't trust any politician, including pubs, as far as I can throw them. I take a look at their platform, vote for one, then hold their feet to the fire when they try to stray from that platform.

This is what is on Romneys website;

"Promote A Culture Of Life. As President, Governor Romney will promote a culture of life. Governor Romney believes that Roe v. Wade should be overturned so that the issue of abortion can be returned to the American people and their elected representatives at the state and federal level."

Overturning RvW is hardly the position of a pro choicer. It's also the strategy of smart right to lifers who understand reducing or eliminating abortions in this country is an incremental battle...at least right now. Those who believe they can take it all out with a Hail Mary pass do their issue more harm than good, IMO.

But the bottom line is do I think Romney will govern as pro life President? Will he nominate pro life SC justices? Regardless of what platforms he has had to campaign for in the past, my answer is yes.

Huckabee is pro-life. He is also pro-murderer; come to AR and ask the victims. He wants taxpayers to help support illegals (he and his democrat legislatures) didn’t put it out for taxpayers to vote on.....they just determined we should do it.

There is so much more, just search it on Freerepublic. He has flip-flopped on illegals, so how can anybody badmouth Romney.

Please check Huckabee out more closely.

Now how in the world would you know? I’m sure his constituents in Massachusetts were equally convinced of just the opposite:

The man is an incredible actor. Very Slick (see also slippery; two faced politician; prevaricator, etc).

Your reasons are sound. One more for the grist mill: he is advertising in Georgia that he wants to be the president who signs the order to close the IRS. "So we can keep ALL of our paychecks and jobs".

FairTax.

A Republican governor getting complaints from a Democrat legislature?

“Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down.”

I would too if they were on a fishing expedition.

then I’m casting my vote for Hunter as he’s still going to appear on the ballot.

Gosh, I sure wish I could vote for Hunter in Huckabee’s home state. I wish there was some way to get him back in.

Ver small right now. If the state-by-state polls are right McCain will be the nominee on Feb 6.

By the way, your argument proves the point:

“He was a conservative politician trying to get elected governor in a very liberal state. His people ran the numbers, they knew he could win on all the other campaign positions but being a pro lifer in Massachusetts was a death blow.”

Now he’s trying to get nominated for president from a normally conservative party. His people ran the numbers, they knew he could win on all the other campaign positions but being a pro choice Republican was a death blow, so...

Just my opinion, but John McCain is God giving America who they actually are:

wishy washy about life, speech, cells, religion, gays, guns, families, marriage, money, personal life, and everything except the defense of their culture and bread and circus.

The desires of our hearts read aloud in one man who is a picture of the reality of our actual behavior.

73 million babies killed.

Yep, that's why 16 murderers were put to death when Huckabee was governor.

I’m glad I don’t have to fight this battle (for now).

We busted our guts for Fred here in Iowa.
