Actually, Juan is the one who is the major league flip flopper....trying to pose as a conservative

Mitt refuted his record pretty well last night.

> Wouldn’t it be nice if McCain was as mean, vindictive, unyielding and uncompromising to Democrats as he is to members of his own party? <

That outcome is about as likely as the Pope’s declaring that he’s become a Mormon.

But if Romney wins, I’m voting for the Democrats for the first time. I won’t legitimize mormonism by putting one in office.

Wow ... Mormonism is worse than communism? I don't remember hearing about the Mormon gulags, purges, and killing fields.

This type of pretentious, religious bigotry is disgusting and not welcome on FR.

What to do? Nothing... Let the us republicans pick who we want in the primary process. Just because some people don't like him doesnt mean the system is broken. and at this point... MCcain looks like the winning horse.. slowly.. all the big boys and lining up behind him. Romney is starting to look too weak when the pressure is on. Too much of a game show host type figure, and its starting to show (i.e. the polls in delegate rich states).

Everyone will do what their conscience dictates on election day. My decision is already made. For the first time in over 40 years of eligibility to vote, I won't be.

I am finished voting against.

I’m in a very blue state, so I can probably vote third party, or write-in, without it being a truly “courageous” move. My vote won’t tip the scales anyway. If the election were today, I’d have an extremely difficult time voting for McCain.

I disagree strongly with your reason for opposing Romney. But everyone’s entitled to his or her opinion, and I doubt anything I say would change your mind.

You’ve given your view, and I’ve given mine. Not much else to be said there.

Is it too early to start thinking about 2012, if we still have a country left by then?

I will NOT vote for a Democrat come November!

And this means regardless of whether he has a (D) or (R) after his name.

NO LIBS in the White House.

I plan on voting CONSERVATIVE in the General Election, whomever the conservative candidate is.

If Barak wins on the Democratic side, I stay home or vote third party.

So you don't really care about losing the Iraq War?

Well if Rasmussen has anything to say about it... Mccain is currently +8% vs Hillary and +5% vs Obama.. Romney is -17% vs Hillary... MCcain will SMASH Hillary in a general election... Just wait until its McCain vs Hillary ALONE... no other cannon fodder in the way.. it will be an embarrassment for the dems.

The MSM will destroy McCain once he clinches the nomination.

I really don’t care too much that Romney has “flip-flopped”.
It doesn’t matter when a person comes to the right beliefs, so long as they do.
Romney should get credit for that, not be penalized.
Plus, just between you and me, I think Romney had to run a certain type of campaign in Massachusetts that he was freed from after being elected.

Does anyone call Arnold a flip-flopper?
Everyone knew he was liberal, but he played up how conservative he was.
He’s just doing now what everyone knew he would.

In Massachusetts everyone knew Romney was conservative, but he played up being moderate.
When he governed, he confirmed everyone’s suspicions by governing as a conservative.

That’s why he didn’t seek re-election. He was way too conservative for Massachusetts’s’ tastes.

I’m not sure that if Conservatives hold out (till ‘12) for a true Conservative, that the country will go along with them. It’s not a lock, stock and barrel type of thing. As someone stated here earlier, people are conservative for different reasons. I think this do-it-my-way-or-the-highway attitude will spell disaster for the country. We cannot predict the weather for next week; what makes you think you can figure out how elections MIGHT go in four and a half years? The changes that have taken place in this primary should at least demonstrate there is a range of possibilities and no one can predict them. I’m not willing to chance things with a Dem.

Dems thought they would have gotten more traction after GWB was in office, but 9-11 happened. Rudy was excoriated in NYC for so many reasons, and then he’s on the cover of Time (after 9-11). Things changed. We can’t predict the future. And I’m not willing to chance having a Dem in office when something serious happens, just for party purity. Democracies are not perfect, or neat.

Conservatives are not a super-majority in the country (and Libs certainly aren’t). There is a need for coalition building on all sides (your clothespin should probably be a permanent part of your wardrobe). Bringing home your base is only one part of the electorate.

“I believe the majority of people are conservative. I think MSM being in the tank for Juan has had an effect...and of course many of the primaries were open primaries.
He certainly is not the candidate of the conservative GOP.
He is a media whore and has been pimped relentlessly by the media...
The POW thing has been way overplayed.”

I have always respected John McCain for his service to our country, and felt sorry for him having to endure what he and others did as a POW. Yes, he was and is considered a hero, like many others who put their lives on the line for our freedom. However, I do not want him to be our Commander In Chief because of his “know it all” attitude. I want a President who listens to the Generals on the ground. It disturbs me that McCain tries constantly to take credit for the surge when the success of the surge goes to General Petreaus.

Now we are electing our President, and war hero or not, we look for a candidate who has a record and stands on issues that is in line with our beliefs.

When I looked at all the candidates in the beginning, I found Fred Thompson to be the candidate for me. I was for Fred all the way, until he dropped out. I then had to look at the rest of the candidates in even more detail.

Now it is obvious that Huckabee and Paul have no chance of winning the nomination. That brings us down to McCain or Romney. Just weigh the option of McCain or Romney in detail realizing just these few facts:

McCain is for amnesty and open borders, Romney is not.
McCain can’t be trusted on taxes, Romney can.
McCain is for McCain/Feingold, Romney is not.
McCain is for the fairness doctrine, Romney is not.
McCain is endorsed by the New York Times, Romney is not.
McCain is pushed by the MSM, Romney is not.

I hope folks consider the two options and vote for Romney on Super Tuesday!

Bit strong, even for McCain.

McCain is an egomanic liberal, not the Devil.

Thanks - I didn’t get to watch.

Again, I would feel MUCH more comfortable with Romney than McCain, although compared to the ideal candidate my comfort level is not terribly high.

I agree that it’s very necessary that we work to get true conservatives elected down the ticket in 2008, and always.

My predictions, if I had to give them today, would be that McCain is nominated and loses to Clinton, the country goes through four years of Carter-ish hell, and conservatives pick up the pieces in 2012. Gloomy!

I hope Romney pulls it out, somehow.

Rasmussen will have nothing to say about it, the media will, and they haven’t even begun to take down McCain. McCain has all the same problems that Hillary does, so he innoculates her against discussions of her marriage and personal life, corruption, arrogance, unlikeable personality, Washington insiderness, etc.

Six months ago Giuliani was ahead in those polls, and it only took a few negative articles to take him out. McCain has a whole lot more baggage than Giuliani.
