Help Derail the McCain Train: Freep Him At CPAC !
January 30, 2008

Reposting this Announcement, because I posted it wrong the first time, so the mods pulled that thread and told me to fix it and repost....

From the National Review: McCain Making Nice at CPAC? [Mark Hemingway]

After skipping the event last year, I just heard that McCain purchased a booth at CPAC, the annual conservative gathering in Washington coming up two weeks from now. CPAC attendees are pretty hard core conservatives — not exactly McCain's base. Romney won the straw poll there last year, and at one point, McCain was actually booed by the crowd when they announced the poll results. Then again, CPAC is a few days after Super Tuesday, so it's possible McCain could have locked up the nomination by then. It'll be interesting to see how much of an olive branch to conservatives this is perceived to be.

[end quoted text]======================================

McCain snubbed the conservative base last year, by skipping CPAC among his many other anti-conservative actions. Now, a little bit full of himself after his win in Florida, McCain says he wants to reach out to us; and I guess that's where buying a booth at CPAC comes in.

Well, if McCain wants to "reach out" to the conservatives he has repeatedly insulted and maligned, by hanging out at CPAC... I say we conservatives should respond in a way that McCain will understand.

I would like to suggest that all Freepers, lurkers and like-minded conservatives attending CPAC this year make a beeline for the McCain booth and deliver a head of lettuce *, with a note attached reading, "$2 for a head of lettuce is a price I am willing to pay for national security. I don't trust John McCain."

Or you can attach your own note detailing what else is wrong with John McCain as the Republican presidential nominee.

Who knows; if enough lettuce heads are delivered to the McCain booth at CPAC, he may self-destruct while there is still time to save the party and the country.

=================================

* McCain is Booed By Labor Activists

...McCain responded by saying immigrants were taking jobs nobody else wanted. He offered anybody in the crowd $50 an hour to pick lettuce in Arizona.

Shouts of protest rose from the crowd, with some accepting McCain’s job offer.

“I’ll take it!” one man shouted.

McCain insisted none of them would do such menial labor for a complete season. “You can’t do it, my friends.”

There is no way McCain can have the nomination locked up after Super Tuesday.

“There is no way McCain can have the nomination locked up after Super Tuesday.”

Please explain. If folks stay home, vote for Paul or Huckabee, or vote for anyone who has pulled out, we get McCain the way I see it. I pray that does not happen and that folks realize Mitt Romney is the best option now.

Do you have info on the delegate counts of the Super Tuesday states and about who has the best chance of winnng the most delegates? I will keep praying for Mitt Romney to win the nomination as soon as possible so Amnesty McCain is not our nominee!

I’m thinking about making it to CPAC—but that’s as far as it has gotten at this point. Maybe I”ll see you there.

Why don’t you let the rest of us vote first.

“Hi there Senator McCain, I’m from freerepublic.com and here’s a head of lettace that I’m willing to pay $2 for.”
The media will love that, our credibility as a politically influential website will tank after a stunt like that.

LOL!

But why use FedEx? The USPS can do it for less.

It may take a little longer to get there, but the lettuce will be good and ripe when he gets it.

;-)

We've all got to vote like our country and our national security depends on it; because it does.

Forget what the MSM is telling us about the Maverick John McCain being the frontrunner, and the choice of the Republican voters.

McCain is the choice of the MSM, the Democrats, Hillary Clinton, Mexico...

but he is most definitely not my choice.

I would reconsider the idea. The CPAC meeting is not in the form of a picnic on the mall. The convention is at the Shoreham, a major luxury hotel.

It’s just not the kind of place where one does this sort of thing.

Well, if you don't want to do it, nobody's holding a gun to your head.

We can just let the party walk all over us like we've always done in the past (afterall, where else can we go, right?), and see what that gets us.

I don't think so.

It’s not like folks are being urged to throw them at him or shout him down or do other things to prevent McCain from speaking. It’s a fun, creative way to make a point based on McCain’s pro-illegal politics and his contempt for the American worker.

The Shoreham is a dump.

And the exhibit space is in a curtained-off section of the (unheated) parking garage.

The hotel is not a dump—it’s a dowager. The exhibit hall is a dump. And drafty. And hard on your feet. But it’s still fun to roam around. Just not as comfortable as some us would prefer if one pays the $125 admission fee or the exhibitor fee.
