Detroit mayor pleads for forgiveness

DETROIT - Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pleaded for forgiveness from his family and his constituents Wednesday in an emotional televised speech, his delayed response to recently revealed racy text messages that contradict his sworn testimony that he did not have a physical relationship with a key aide.

"I truly apologize to you," Kilpatrick said, turning to his wife, Carlita, who sat by his side, holding his hand, at their family church.

Kilpatrick did not publicly specify, however, what he was apologizing for, saying legal matters prevented him from doing so. A prosecutor is investigating whether the mayor and chief of staff Christine Beatty lied under oath during a whistle-blower's lawsuit last summer in which both denied having a physical relationship.

Kilpatrick vowed to remain mayor in his speech, which aired live in prime time on Detroit television stations.

"I remain in charge of the city," he said during the speech at Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ. There was no audience and no reporters or photographers, save for the operator of the sole video camera used.

The speech ended a week of seclusion for Kilpatrick since the text messages came to light.

emotional televised speech

one of my laws applies here, clearly. hype is inversely proportional to value. in other words, the louder they squawk, the less they are to be believed.

Nothing will happen, never does to politicians.

It is said the only two things that stop a corrupt politician is a dead women or a live boy in his bed.

He should apologize to the citizens for the sad state that a once great city is in.

Not even a dead woman in the case of Ted Kennedy! This will just be a resume enhancer for another lying Dem.

The Marxist Dimocrat “get out of trouble” or “get out of jail free” card played. Just apologize. Whether you mean it or not does not matter. Just say, “I am soooooo sorry.” Then all is forgiven. Unless you are a conservative. Then you are damned for ever.

In a perfect world, this sort of event would trigger a voter backlash as the people rise up and throw all the incompetent and corrupt bums out of office. Unfortunately, in Detroit, most of the smart people moved to the suburbs over the last 4 decades.

I know he’s a Democrat b/c it’s Detroit, but you can also know he’s a Democrat because the story does not mention in the headline or any of the first sets of paragraphs what his political party is.

In this day and age there’s now way to get away with this kind of stuff as a public political figure. Not for long, anyway.

Even better: say you’re sorry in a church, no less. Gotta forgive you there, right? Frickin’ liberal hypocrites.
