Posted on 01/30/2008 8:41:09 AM PST by TSchmereL

AND NOW . . . amidst billowing clouds of fragrant, aromatic first- and second-hand premium cigar smoke. . . it is time for . . . that harmless, lovable little fuzz ball, the highly-trained broadcast specialist, having more fun than a human being should be allowed to have, firmly ensconced in the prestigious Attila-the-Hun chair at the Limbaugh Institute of Advanced Conservative Studies, from behind the golden EIB microphone, with talent on loan from G-d, at the cutting-edge of societal evolution, with half his brain tied behind his back — just to make it fair, the all-knowing, all-caring, all-sensing, all-feeling, Maha-Rushie! America's Anchorman, Truth Detector, and Doctor of Democracy. He is the man who runs America. He knows the Democrats like every square inch of his glorious naked body. He is ready to do what he was born to do--That's host. Get ready to what you were born to do--That's listen (and post your comments on the Rush Limbaugh LIVE Radio Thread).

Now that Rudy’s out, we basically have a situation like 2000 where its McCain versus a moderate R (Romney in this case versus Bush in 2000)

Romney is not moderate. He was named the #8 RINO in country for the year 2005 by Human Events magazine. To suggest he is anything but a liberal and just as bad a choice as McCain is absurd.

Romney isn't pulling out. There's still a long way to go. He'll adjust his line of attack and defense accordingly. I don't count him out.....and neither do a lot folks posting on FR last night and tonight.

Now I hear Rush THREE times since his show opened today conceding that it appears McManiac will almost certainly win the nomination.

Thanks Rush, for the boost for us who don't give up the ship when it's not yet even begun to burn.

I think you’re wrong to blame Rush.

Huckabee is as bad (or worse) than McCain and not as electable.

Why should he promote one unsatisfactory candidate that he doesn’t believe in just to please some Huck supporters.

He tells it as he sees it.

WHAT did Rush just say? The one we get is the one we’ll dislike the LEAST????

From the look of things- I’d have to disagree with that.

My head will explode.

However, if McCain has the nomination locked up and Fred endorses him, I can understand.

Most of Fred’s supporters have gone to Romney. He needs to respect that. Having spent a lot of time on the Fred08.com blogs, I know that almost everyone opposed McCain.

Dane. I never saw Rush as the keeper of the bridges between the various factions of the Republican Party.

I am not sure whose department that is.

I always viewed Rush as the voice of Conservative principals.

To the extent that the Republican Party abandons those, and to the extent that its various candidates abandon them, Rush will not join in. And I think that is appropriate.

Ronald Regan’s legacy, however you want to describe it, was not one of abandoning Conservative principals for the sake of the Republican Party. (Although even he may have done it once or twice).

“A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency or simply to swell its numbers.” Ronald Wilson Reagan, Conservative Political Action Conference, February 15, 1975.

If Romney wins it will be due to conservative support. He will owe us and some in the MSM will have to acknowledge our influence.

What on earth makes you think that Romney can be trusted to do anything but what is best for himself? Massachusetts Republicans found out what a backstabber he is. He has flip-flopped on just about every issue in the past five years.

The idea he is any better a choice than McCain is laughable.

The Huckabee voters will have to move to Romney.

As I posted earlier, this is where your plan fails. For the typical Huckabee voter, Romney is the Devil. For the typical Romney voter, Huckabee is a Socialist. Getting cross-over from those two groups might just be an impossible task.

As much as I dislike McCain, I can’t envision a realistic scenario where Romney wins the nomination at this point. Unless an unhinged McCain starts playing with ball bearings on national tv, I don’t see him losing now. Rush or Fred or whoever can’t appreciably affect the dynamics currently in play imo.
