The “Republican Party” cannot be “conservative”. If it was, it would be a 25% party.
Conservatives like to talk about getting rid of all the moderates, but then we won’t win any elections.
In order to get a Reagan, we have to be able to get 51% of the vote.
John McCain won’t win in November. He’s a lousy candidate. And yet he might just be able to get a win in Florida, which maybe means HE CAN get people to vote for him.
If we assume for the moment he CAN win the election, then we have to decide if we WANT him to win. Well, he’s strong on the war. He’s good for the military. He’s bad for catching terrorists, but we only waterboarded a few people anyway, and my guess is deep down he’ll turn aside if he has to.
Maybe he would be OK. We already decided here that McCain/Feingold/Thompson wasn’t the deal-killer we used to think, since we were voting for Thompson.
He’s a nut about global warming, but maybe 4 years of global warming hysteria won’t kill us.
It’s going to take a while to talk me into McCain. But I think it’s easier than talking me into Huckabee or Rudy.
At some point conservatives may have to decide if we are going to let McCain win without us. Because if we do, he’ll owe us nothing.
Maybe McCain will pick Fred Thompson as VP. And then quit after 4 years.
Sorry, McCain is too old and has too much baggage.
I can understand people whose principles differ from mine. The deal breaker for me is Roe v Wade.
On the rest of the issues - it's gonna be same ol' same ol. These are politicians; not statesmen.
I heard on Rush (I think it was his show) that there’s a rumor floating that McCain will only serve 4 years if he’s elected then bow out and not run for re-election.
Moderates like to talk about getting rid of the conservatives, but then they won't win any elections. Not that they would care, they were very happy as a minority for decades. It was comfy.
In order to get 51% of the vote we need a Reagan conservative.
John McCain won't win in November, he is a lousy candidate. He is moderate and knows little about big issues and what he knows is often wrong. He is not conservative and does not like conservatives.
He will sign the fairness doctrine in a heartbeat.
McCain wants to win without conservatives, he doesn't think he owes us anything even if we did get him elected in November. He has it in for conservatives and will try to hurt us. even if we put him over the top.
"Maybe he would be OK. We already decided here that McCain/Feingold/Thompson wasnt the deal-killer we used to think, since we were voting for Thompson.
Hes a nut about global warming, but maybe 4 years of global warming hysteria wont kill us."
Stop it.
You are hysterical.
You are not voting for McCain.
Me, I'm going to get myself some survival gear, and a lot of ammo. (First I have to get a gun and learn how to use it though.)
Who are John McCain's enemies? What do you think John McCain would do to his enemies with the power of the IRS, FBI, et al. at his disposal?
If conservatives were to remind John McCain of any debts to them, would he regard them as creditors to be repaid, or pests to be eliminated? I see no value in becoming indebted to John McCain.
