From the color of her suit to her latest choice in hairstyle, Hillary Clinton and her appearance is a common topic of conversation, and according to political analysts, the female presidential candidate is scrutinized for her looks more so than her male counterparts.
"There's no doubt that [Clinton] is held to a different standard the evaluation of appearance has always been traditionally different for female candidates," said Sarah Brewer, the associate director of the Women and Politics Institute at American University.
"It's really very sexist," Geraldine Ferraro, a former vice presidential candidate, told ABCNEWS.com. "Nobody is going to say they don't like how [Illinois Sen.] Barack Obama looks and nobody is going to say that about [former North Carolina Sen.] John Edwards."
Throughout the campaign season, Clinton's appearance has made headlines particularly after an unflattering photo was featured on Matt Drudge's Drudge Report in December 2007 zooming in on every line and wrinkle on the New York senator's face.
Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh spoke about the photograph in December, posing the question that was on many people's minds: "Will Americans want to watch a woman get older before their eyes on a daily basis?"
"And that woman, by the way, is not going to want to look like she's getting older, because it will impact poll numbers," Limbaugh said. "It will impact perceptions."
While it's too soon to tell whether a droopy physical appearance will translate into drooping support at the polls, political gurus told ABCNEWS.com that gender bias is responsible for the media's willingness to openly discuss Clinton's Botox options while hardly mentioning Obama's worn-out appearance.

This was an issue a month ago. We all talked it to death and moved on. The only reason ABC is bringing this up again is to hurt Hillary and help Obama. The MSM has the long knives out for the Clintons now, mark my words.
Perhaps if the LSM would start discussing HRC ideas and experience, ...but that would give the anti-Hillary crowd exactly what they've wanted for so long, and people would start focusing on the unattractiveness of those ideas, the failure of her management projects, the negative outcomes of her policies, and the complete lack of morality in her thought processes.
The fact that HRC wasn't much to look at in her younger days, and that she's not aging well can draw on her biggest as...um, her biggest strength, and that is the sympathy vote.
The author and ABC are just afraid to write about their TRUE dislikes of Hellary.
It’s hard to ignore Ugliness on such a grand scale.
Ditto for the Cankles and Thighs.
if this is true then Fred Thompson was graded on the WOMAN’s scale, because there was no end of criticism of his appearance.
Governance ideology is the definer, doncha know. ;-)
I do not think I’ve heard anyone other than freepers mention her “looks”. Make up stories to keep her in the news, sympathy vote.
I remember when they were campagning for Bill and did their bus thing. There was a picture of her in the motor home with a pack and and ash tray. It was in Time or some such rag. I bet she still does. We ought to ask Dicky Morris about that one.
And talking about looks, Fred, up close and personal, is a very handsome man. Last year I had the good fortune of talking to him one-on-one for a while, (and did my part in getting on his case to run for president,) and his presence and appearance, and ambience and demeanor were haltingly handsome. He's a man's man with a very appealing inner. He truly IS good-looking, where as Canks truly is anything BUT.
We really missed out on a great president in Fred. The country's loss.
Actually, her annoying cackle was a short-lived facade that was intended to intimidate people. When the campaign found that the cackle didn't fare well in focus groups, she dropped it just as abruptly as she had adopted it.
She sure looked good on a horse.
No commentary needed.
The dirty little secret is that her ugly physical appearance WILL trump a sympathy vote among women—even though those fellow women will NEVER admit it.
i totally agree with you on Fred. i was just commenting on the crap that was dished on his wrinkles etc. because i thought it ludicrous for Freepers to go there when to a man we ragged on BOTOX Kerry. i think fred is very handsome and i am still mourning the loss of his campaign.
