GOD WILL NOT LET YOU FALL

My family and I went camping this past summer. We took several hikes down the little river bed as it flowed through the Cuyamaca State Park near our home in San Diego. We topped for a picnic lunch, and ate with our feet in the cool running water.

As I ate my sandwich, I started tracing a trail through the rocks that shot up into the air in front of us. It was an old habit from days gone by of rock scrambling: no ropes, no hardware, no helmet, no brains! As teenagers, and even into college, my buddies and I would climb the rocks of Big Bend in Texas. I'm sure I'll get in trouble with the folks from safety but I confess: I got up and started to climb; partly to prove something to myself and mostly to show off for my bride of nine years.

Our daughter of fifteen watched me for a bit and started to follow. She caught up with me and we went over the basics. I showed her the path she was to take which involved little skill and kept mom happy. I took the more difficult route and we met at the top. Unless you rappel, getting down is usually more difficult, so I stayed close to Tiffany in order to offer help should she need it. The tendency is to cling to the rock but often it's best to lean out away from it for better balance and stability. As she was coming down, I was below verbally guiding her. She couldn't see the next ledge below her, and was trying her best to stretch in order to touch it while hanging on to the hand hold above. I could see exactly what she needed to do and knew she was capable of doing it. I told her she just had to trust me. With confidence in Dad, she lowered herself the last few inches and fully planted her feet on secure rock. You could see the pride shining in her eyes (and probably, mine too)!

Just think of how many times our heavenly "Dad" is below us; seeing the next step p[erfectly, even when we are blind to the future. There are times when we simply have to trust God to not let us fall. The more we learn to depend on God the easier it gets to place our lives into those loving hands with confidence. The next time you find your footing somewhat unsure, and the fear of falling looms up from below, remember that God is there for you, anxious to show you the way and guide you one step at a time.

Some of these links are broken. Im using this post out of respect to Mr. Tonkin as he used this for his first post. My apologies, as Id change the broken links if I could.

Dear Lord, help me to overcome my fears of today, and to look to You
from Whom comes my strength. Teach me to love my enemies and trust in
You, for You have told me that You will always be there when I need a
friend. Lord, I can carry a heavy burden upon my shoulders and as long as
I have You to lead and guide me, my burdens will be light. Amen.

A Sheer Delight
  READ: Psalm 37:1-11
Delight yourself . . . in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
After finishing high school in 1941, Clair Hess anticipated serving his country by joining the army. But when he developed a heart murmur from a bout with scarlet fever, he was denied acceptance. He admits that he was envious of his fellow graduates and other servicemen in their uniforms, but he was helped by reading Psalm 37 and seeing how the psalmist David handled envy.
While Clair was wondering about Gods direction for his life, his uncle suggested to him that the Lord might be calling him to His service. So Clair attended Moody Bible Institute and was led into a career of singing and later editing for RBC Ministries. Hes been doing that for 50 years now and calls serving God a sheer delight.
David encouraged us in Psalm 37 to delight in the Lord and not to envy others (vv.1-4). Although he was talking about envying people who get away with evil, we can apply it to other types of envy. Instead of comparing ourselves with others, we need to delight ourselves in God. In His time, Hell fulfill the desires of our heart and affirm that we are in His will.
Were all in Gods service as believers. And serving Him is a sheer delight.

Let the joy of the Lord be your strength
 May His peace fill your heart day and night;
As you walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
You will find that Hell lead you aright.  Hess

Contentment comes when Gods will is more important than our wants.
