Florida governor to endorse McCain TRIBUNE-REVIEW

Salena Zito

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Associated Press is reporting that Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will throw his support behind John McCain.

He joins Sen. Mel Martinez in what may prove to be the push McCain needs over Mitt Romney as the two battle it out for first place in the Sunshine State.

Getting Crist’s support was considered by all of the candidates a huge catch. Crist enjoys over a 70 percent approval rating.

McCain is clearly the establishment candidate.
He has gotten the bulk of endorsements from the very Washington politicians who are the problem.

Romney should be saying that the proof that McCain is the broken establishment’s hand-picked candidate is in their endorsements of him, whether its the Washington fat cat Republicrat Senators, or the pro-Amnesty governors, or the New York Times.
Turn them all around on him, and he will be poised as the Ronald Reagan-style outsider going in to Super-Tuesday.

John McCain is our Hillary Clinton, and Mitt Romney is our Obama. That makes Mike Huckabee our John Edwards, naturally.

Romney is ahead in a lot of polls. I think McCain is pulling out all the stops right before our Tuesday primary. McCain looked pasty tonight on Fox. Some 71 year olds look 60. He looked like he should retire, not vie for this huge obligation.

Yes, I think McLame is working to do hit Mitt on every side....I can almost hear his voice..."See, everyone of my moderate Republican friends sez I am the best! The BEST, DO YOU HEAR ME?! Vote for me...vote for me...."

McLame might even pull a last minute stunt on Sunday or Monday, try to get another big name endorsement (I don't think it would be JEB!)....but I can tell you this: I am a Republican who refuses to be sucked into the "do it the Washington establishment's way" thinking. D.C. and Crist can shove it--I voted for MITT.

Well, that surely speaks volumes about the “conservative” governor we elected, doesn’t it?

We must do all we can do to deny McCain the nomination!

Crist enjoys over a 70 percent approval rating.

Really? I didn't get the impression he could safely leave the capital. I think he's a RINO scumbag and should be run out of the state.

Follow the money. Reports were he first was in Giuliani’s corner. Now that Rudy is a dry well, he is cast aside. I reckon his big campaign bucks don’t come from Romney or Huckabee supporters.

This whole FL election is crazy. I don’t think it tells much about the ultimate outcome of the delegate count going into the convention. We had Rudy down here for a long time and he was out in force when early voting started. I literally do not know anyone who plans to vote that did not vote a long time ago. Then you have the Cuban-block-voting that looks like it is going to McCain - probably due to his pro illegal stance. I just think it will turnout to be a one-off and does not tell what will happen on SuperTuesday.

McCain is campaigning at a Senior place called The Villages in Orlando today with JOE LIERBERMAN. It was a small crowd. C-spam showed part of it. When they panned back, it was a small crowd. When they did a tight shot, it looked like McCain was surrounded by supporters. Not! At least Huckabee was playing the bass today and not hanging with liberals.

How stupid does McCain sound when he says how low the approval rating for congress is and how bad things are? Well, isn’t he in congress? McCain can’t expect people to vote for the status quo if he’s part of it. Tuesday will tell all. Go, Mitt.

My husband and I both plan to vote for Mitt on Tuesday. We would have gone for Fred if we voted early, which would have been a wasted vote.

I hate early voting because it wastes money and does not necessarily give time for the candidates to campaign, plus as we see with Fred, campaigns are too fluid; therefore I refuse to do it.

Like I said, we were for Fred, and didn’t have a 2nd choice but our only option is Mitt. None of the rest are very great choices, but if our economy fails, we’re in big trouble and I think Mitt will do the best with that.

In today's www.sptimes.com, Adam Smith did an article wherein Giuliani's team had a DATE CERTAIN from Crist when he was going to endorse Rudy. Crist dirty double crossed Giuliani because McCain was in St. Pete by Crist's rental condo and Giuliani was on the other coast. The Lincoln Dinner where Marc Rubio was was wtg for Crist but he was a no show. Crist was in St. Pete prepping to upstage Barak Obama which he did.

Mitt Romney is stearing clear of all the phonies. I'm voting for Mitt.

The Villagers are pretty conservative, so I doubt they’re for McCain. I’m glad to see they apparently aren’t buying the whole war hero bit with him. (I’m not denigrating his service to our country, but voting for McCain b/c of his military record in spite of all his other shortcomings is stupid, IMHO.)
