So If Saddam had nothing, why didn’t he give the weapons inspectors free reign? Why would you risk being the dictator of a country, having billions in oil revenue at your disposal, simply because you really didn’t have any WMD’s. Sounds ridiculous to me. After all, the man gassed his own people, attacked Iran, Kuwait, and even sent scus into Israel. He lived for military conflict and cementing his legacy within the Arab world.

The invasion of Iraq was a strategic necessity for the security of the Worlds Oil supply from Iran, to protect Israel, and to keep the House of Saud secure. Sadaam was too wild, and was destabilizing the region, and was a genocidal maniac, fascist.
Looking at a map of the ME, one can see that Iran is NOW entirely surrounded by US military bases.
Once the Talibanis are put paid ( One prays!) then Iran will be the Islamic Hefalump of the region, odd man out, and an arcane throwback to an archaic social dinosaur age.
We have to commit to bring that about.
Damn the Dems, full speed ahead!
All this talk about why Sadaam did what he did is moot. Who cares why the fascist maniac behaved as he did. One spin or the other on it supports the urban myth the "Bush Lied" Invading Iraq was one of the smartest moves of Dubyah's presidency. Refusing to fight the Dems here at home in the media , and in Congress, as Tom DeLay did, was Dubyah's dumbest move, Dubyah'ssecond dumbest move was allowing the AG's office to file an Amicus breif in favor of Washington D.C. 's gun ban law now before the Supreme Court. Two big dumbsters.
Three Dubyah, and yer OUT!
Dubyah, do not veto the "build the fence funding legislation" now put back in the pipe by Duncan Hunter!

Saddam Hussein initially didn't think the U.S. would invade Iraq to destroy weapons of mass destruction
Likewise, Ahmadinejad doesn't think the US would bomb Iran....
