Sharapova, Ivanovic move into Australian Open women's final 3 hours ago
MELBOURNE, Australia - A year after losing the Australian Open final in embarrassing fashion to American Serena Williams, Russian Maria Sharapova is looking unstoppable in her quest for a third Grand Slam singles title.
But if it doesn't happen in Saturday's final at Melbourne Park against Serbia's Ana Ivanovic, she won't lose too much sleep over it.
"From the beginning of the tournament, you want to go a step further than you've done in the past," Sharapova said after her 6-3, 6-1 semifinal win over Jelena Jankovic on Thursday.
"That's always your goal, and your mantra going into a tournament. If it's not this Saturday ... if it doesn't happen, hey, it's life."
The way Sharapova is playing, she can afford to be introspective - six straight-set wins, including one that ended No. 1 Justine Henin's 32-match winning streak in the quarter-finals.

Sharipova vs Ivanovic... So much for the lesbian dominance in pro tennis...
Way to go.
Dang I wish I had ESPN2 right now. :-)
I’m watching the match now. Ana up 5-4 in the first set.
Somehow listening on AO Radio isn’t quite the same.
Sharapova serving for the first set at 6-5.
Thanks for the updates....
Looks really good in HD here.
Sharapova breaks to go up 4-3 in second set after winning first set 7-5.
Boy, after that break she just steamrolled her.
Oh I hope not. She could be a great tennis player and I hope she doesn't get sidetracked like Kournikova did. Maria just won. Good for her,she played awesome tennis at this slam.
Sharapova was just too strong. I was cheering Ana on but she could not keep up with Maria.
Hopefully Ana can improve and win a Major soon, :(
Shriekapova def Squeakavic!
Shriekapova could beat Pornikova blindfolded:)
Thank you.
Many people have asked me why I play tennis and why I am such an avid tennis fan. Your picture should put to rest those questions.
throw in handcuffs..and you've got some quality pay per view progamming.
I had no idea that Ana was#2 and Maria was #5 coming into this tourney.
“throw in handcuffs..and you’ve got some quality pay per view progamming.”
haha!
And that would be one more great reason for changing the format to the best of five sets for women.
anyone else laugh when Mary Carillo said that Maria’s father looked like the unibomber in his hood in the earlier rounds?
