Ladies and gentleman, today I my heart sank... My jaw dropped.... And my mind screamed!!!
I think blood shot out of my left eyeball as I opened my email this evening and I found this message from Chuck Winn, Florida Chief of Staff, Hunter for President - who if you recall is the guy who provided respones for my campaign interview with Duncan Hunter's campaign. Well here is he message and some of you may have recieved the same, I couldn't believe it either:
QUOTE:
I have full confidence that Congressman Hunter made this decision with the sole consideration of what would be in the best interest of our Country. I have full faith and confidence in Congressman Hunter's judgement and urge you to join me in following his example.

HUNTER ENDORSES HUCKABEE FOR PRESIDENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 23, 2008
CONTACT: Gary Becks (619) 334-1655
Washington, D.C. - - - Congressman Duncan Hunter, who withdrew his candidacy for the Republican Presidential nomination on January 19, 2007 , today endorsed Mike Huckabee.
"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America's industrial base."
"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

The guy we (THAT I) was calling a "real" conservative Endorses a guy who I consider more LIBERAL than Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter combined?! What is going on?
Maybe Congressman Hunter thinks his "electoral luck" will rub off on Huckabee??? No, I think not, I think many of us have been severely let down. I guess you never can tell. This is absolutely puzzling!!??!?!??!!

Good post!! A pox on knee-jerk reactionaries. There is always more to things than meets the eye. History will show whether Hunter is right or wrong in this regard. His endorsement isn’t enough to get me to vote for Huckabee, however, but it does make me think and wonder what I may be missing.

Shocked me also. But let’s look at the brighter side - he did not endorse crazy McCain.

I felt betrayed by him endorsing Huckabee too, but I think he's doing it to be named as a VP. The Huckster needs someone who can deliver the military vote & has foreign affairs strength. I won't be voting for a Huck/Hunter ticket....No way. No how!!!!
To: cripplecreek
That's how I'm looking at it and I'm willing to see what else he has to say and maybe take a closer look at Huck.
You've got to be kidding me.

Which is worse? Pat Robertson endorsing Giuliani? Or Duncan endorsing Huckabee? The political instincts of the man are appalling, but not Apocalyptic.

Duncan Hunter is still the man you “thought he once was.”
Did you support Hunter for what he said, or what he actually DID. All these Presidential candidates talked about the War on Terror and securing the border. Duncan Hunter has actually fought in a war, his son served in the War on Terror, and Duncan actually DID something about securing the border before he ran for President.
I chose Hunter because he was a man of action. While I’ve never cared much for Huckabee’s immigration stances and nanny-statism, what other choice did Hunter have in endorsing someone? Flip Romney?
Maybe he should have just stayed quiet and not endorsed any of the remaining candidates after Fred’s departure, but the guy has done enough in his career to make me believe that he honestly thinks Huckabee is the right guy at this point.
Will that be enough for me to vote for Huckster in the LA Primary?? Probably not. Hunter’s already on the ballot so he’ll get my vote. But I feel good he didn’t go out an endorse that insencere jerk Romney.

Try this with less colorful language (I apologize): Hunter can make more than a 2-sentence case for Huck here on FR since both he and his son are nominally freepers - if he’s serious about this endorsement.

If he actually believes that Huckabee will be strong on immigration, he is either uninformed (in which case he should have said nothing) or cynical. Don't dismiss the idea that Hunter and Huckabee have had talks and that there is a place in a Huckabee administration for Hunter to implement the issues about which he feels strongest. Hunter may think there is no chance whatsoever to have any sway with the other candidates. Just a thought.

He’s bitter that Tom Tancredo endorsed Romney instead of him, so he tried to sabotage Romney.

The RNC decided two years ago who they were going to have for their nominee. The primary is the biggest sham I have ever seen.

Whoa! It's not the FReepers who are being fickle and disloyal. Their dedication to conservatism has not changed. It is the candidates who are turning out to not be the conservatives they claimed to be.
