Clinton touts fiscal responsibility in California stop

SALINAS, Calif. (AP) - Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton said the economy is beginning to slide into recession and that it's time for the United States to reduce its dependence on foreign lenders.

Speaking to a raucous group of supporters on Tuesday in this heavily Hispanic farming town on the central coast, the New York senator tried to energize this key Democratic constituency before the state's Feb. 5 primary.

With red-shirted United Farm Worker union members behind her, Clinton gave a downbeat assessment of the economy and said she would bring fiscal responsibility back to the White House.

''We know that the economy is beginning to slide into recession,'' Clinton said, adding that it was time to ''get back our fiscal sovereignty, so that we are not dependent on all this foreign money.''

Clinton, who has been leading in California polls, held up the endorsement from the storied labor union begun by Cesar Chavez, as a ''sign of our mutual commitment to make it clear that we are problem solvers.''

But her call for tighter security on the border elicited mostly silence from the crowd, including the dozens of UFW union members in attendance.

Clinton and her chief rival, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, have been battling for endorsements from the Hispanic community in California. Hispanics account for about one in four Democratic voters and their support is crucial to winning Democratic primaries in the state.

Clinton got the UFW endorsement despite her opposition to giving drivers licenses to illegal immigrants, an idea that both the union and Obama support.

She would tax us out of a recession. I wish she would get on her broom and fly to the moon.

"bring fiscal sanity back to the White House"

You go, girl. Great plan.

If the Republicans had one single solitary spine among the entire lot of them, they would pass about 70% of her budget, and fillibuster the rest. Now THAT would be, finally, a little fiscal sanity in Washington.

But since it requires a spine, we're in trouble.

In other words, stop selling treasuries to China? Who’s going to buy them Hillary? Without China’s money, you can’t spend your way to Nirvana.

Did they have nurses standing by to help the people who were injured when they fell off their chairs laughing?

Sorry. Had to pick myself up off the floor after reading Clinton railing against foreign money.

Clinton said, adding that it was time to ''get back our fiscal sovereignty, so that we are not dependent on all this foreign money.''

Jorge Cabrera, a drug smuggler and supporter of President Clinton's 1996 re-election campaign, was asked in November 1995 for a campaign contribution in a Havana hotel by a prominent Democratic fund-raiser. On his return to the United States several days after that meeting, Cabrera wrote a check for $20,000 to the Democratic National Committee from an account that included the proceeds from smuggling cocaine from Colombia to the United States. Already a two time convicted felon, this earned him a visit to the White House. In early January 1996, three weeks after having attended the Christmas reception at the White House, Cabrera was arrested and charged with importing 6,000 pounds of cocaine into the United States on boats through the Florida Keys. He pleaded guilty to those charges and was sentenced to 19 years in federal prison and fined $1.5 million.

(Johnny Chung) Pleaded guilty to illegally donating money to the 1996 Clinton-Gore reelection campaign. He also pleaded guilty to bank fraud and tax evasion and to illegally donating to the campaign of Massachusetts Democrat, Sen. John Kerry. "I see the White House is like a subway -- you have to put in coins to open the gates." Johnny Chung talking about the $50,000 he gave Hillary Clinton's top aide while seeking VIP treatment at the White House.

Macau criminal boss Ng Lapseng. Ng has made most of his money through prostitution. Ng also, on occasion, deals in heroin, murder for hire and gun smuggling. Ng also donated thousands of dollars to the DNC through the Clintons which earned him 12 visits to the White House-- despite knowledge by law enforcement officials of his criminal background.

Clinton is talking to foreigners about foreign dependency and us listening to foreign leaders. The people she is talking to speak Mexican and she can’t understand why the audience sits there with dumbfounded silence. What a Dimwit.
This from the LA Times this morning:
“I think there will be a contest. There is no champion for the Latino community at this point in the political season. Nobody has separated out,” said Antonio Gonzalez, president of Southwest Voter Registration Education Project in Los Angeles.

“They have to make their case now. And we are different,” he said. “If Latinos ran America, we’d have no border wall, illegals would be legal, we wouldn’t have invaded Iraq, and we’d have universal healthcare.”

Latinos probably will account for 20% to 25% of the vote in the Feb. 5 Democratic primary, Gonzalez said, which explains Clinton and Obama’s devotion to Southern California’s Latino neighborhoods over the last weeks. Latinos will be a lesser factor in the Republican primary as they account for only 8% to 10% of likely voters, he said.

She was in Laveen AZ last night, which was suppose to be a town hall theme. They scrapped the idea, saying too many people showed up. Hillary as usual took no question from the people or the press. All she did was bitch and ramble on about the administration, but offered no new ideas.
