I support Barack Obama because he doesn't seek to perfect the politics of Swiftboating -- he seeks to end it.
This is personal for me, and for a whole lot of Americans who lived through the 2004 election.
As a veteran, it disgusts me that the Swift Boats we loved while we were in uniform on the Mekong Delta have been rendered, in Karl Rove's twisted politics, an ugly verb meaning to lie about someone's character just to win an election. But as someone who cares about winning this election and changing the country I love, I know it's not enough to complain about a past we can't change when our challenge is to win the future -- which is why we must stop the Swiftboating, stop the push-polling, stop the front groups, and stop the email chain smears.
The truth matters, but how you fight the lies matters even more. We must be determined never again to lose any election to a lie.
This year, the attacks are already starting. Some of you may have heard about the disgusting lies about Barack Obama that are being circulated by email. These attacks smear Barack's Christian faith and deep patriotism, and they distort his record of more than two decades of public service. They are nothing short of "Swiftboat" style anonymous attacks.
These are the same tactics the right has used again and again, and as we've learned, these attacks, no matter how bogus, can spread and take root if they go unchecked.
But not this time -- we're fighting back.
And when I say "we," I mean that literally. I know Barack is committed to fighting every smear every time. He'll fight hard and stand up for the truth. But he can't do it alone.
We need you to email the truth to your address books. Print it out and post it at work. Talk to your neighbors. Call your local radio station. Write a letter to the editor. If lies can be spread virally, let's prove to the cynics that the truth can be every bit as persuasive as it is powerful.
The Obama campaign has created a place where you can find the truth you'll need to push back on these smears and a way to spread the truth to all of your address book.

He and Al Gore need to form a support "group". At least Al Gore is annoying us in different ways now. John Kerry needs a cause. Of course all that Heinz money keeps his mind occupied though.
Posting Kerry's lies are a sure way to divide a workplace...I thought the dems were all concerned about uniting, not dividing...guess this is yet another point they are hypocrites on.

If Jon Vichy Cary had been properly diced and shredded as he deserved, if the real facts of the “Swift Boat Vets” issue had been accurately presented in national forums, then Jon Cary could never dare to continue pulling this crap because he would be laughed off the national stage.
Instead, he is able to turn things around 180 degrees and present himself as the aggrieved party, making “Swiftboating” into a term of abuse against anyone who dares to question his fairy tale falsifications of history.

Words of Captain Donald L. Nelson, JAG corps USN ret: I was on active duty as a U.S. Navy JAG, when all of this was going on 25 to 30 years ago, and so was Mark F. Sullivan, who at all relevant times was the personal JAG to J. William Middendorf, then the Secretary of the Navy.
We are trying to break this absolutely true story nationwide, i.e., Fox News, C-Span, and hopefully the major networks. We are positive that John Kerry was one of those dishonorably dismissed from the Navy for collaborating with the Viet Cong after he was released from active duty, but still in the Navy and for a totally unauthorized trip to Paris. John Kerry later got an “honorable” separation in 1978, some 12 years after joining the Navy, under President Carter’s “Amnesty Program” for draft dodgers, and other malcontents, who fled to Canada and Holland, among other places, to avoid military service to our country.
This is why John Kerry has refused, and continues to refuse, to release all of his Navy records: they reflect that he was Dishonorably Dismissed from the United States Naval Service. If they do not (which they do) he would have released them to the public. Again, he has not done so, because he well knows that the truth would kill his challenge to President Bush.
