Rush Limbaugh: May Not Support GOP Nominee

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh stunned his listeners by announcing that he might not support the Republican presidential nominee in this year’s election.

Limbaugh said on Monday’s show: "I can see possibly not supporting the Republican nominee this election, and I never thought that I would say that in my life."

The reason: “You don’t have a genuine down-the-list conservative” among the GOP candidates.

“Wherever you go here in this roster of candidates, you're going to be able to point out ‘not conservative, what he did there is not conservative’” Rush said.

The Republican front-runners want the nomination “because it's their turn,” he also stated. “We tried that in '96 with Bob Dole and now they're running the same scenario…

"I'm telling ya, it's gonna come down to which guy do we dislike the least. And that's not necessarily good."

After Rush’s pronouncements, Los Angeles Times blogger Andrew Malcolm wrote: “Across the country, people were dropping their coffee cups, choking on sandwiches, fainting and driving off the road. The king of conservative talk radio not supporting the Republican nominee?”

But Limbaugh’s remarks are not quite so surprising in light of statements he made about GOP candidates Mike Huckabee and John McCain last week:

“I'm here to tell you, if either of these two guys get the nomination, it's going to destroy the Republican Party. It's going to change it forever, be the end of it. A lot of people aren't going to vote. You watch.”

yeah, I have no candidates left to support, but I will still vote, because I want to be able to honestly say I didn’t vote for Hillary (or Osama).

“And so Rush, when it might have really helped, why didn’t you give Duncan Hunter some much needed name exposure before your vast audience?”

-

That’s certainly worth repeating!

And so Rush, when it might have really helped, why didn’t you give Duncan Hunter some much needed name exposure before your vast audience?

“I’ll vote for Obama over McCain, and nobody if it’s Hillary v. McCain.”

Bingo!

Rush could have backed Hunter or Thompson, the only 2 real conservatives in the race but he chose not to. Rush really disappointed me this time around. The Golden EIB microphone ain’t so golden anymore.

Yeah. Oops, now where are we. I know it’s always been his rule to stay out of it, but this time it was a mistake.

so what should we do? just sit there and let hillary win?

Let your conscience be your guide.

As for me, I have not decided if I will write in Fred Thompson, vote Third Party, or completely ignore my better instincts and hold my nose, cover my ears, and cover my eyes and vote Mitt.

The last time I did this I voted for Arnold, instead of Tom McClintock and have totally regretted it ever since.

If I were to listen to John Adams, you know one of our founding fathers, I would either write in Fred Thompson or, if one of the third party candidates are actually conservative and not anti-WOT, vote for them.

Misleading resconstruction of Rush’s comments. It was clear he was talking about John McCain.

I agree. Any of the RINO’s will be better than Hillary as President. Come election day I will vote for the R nominee. Any of the RINO’s running will pick better SCOTUS Judges than Hillary or Obama.

Rush should have supported Fred Thompson instead of trying to stay “impartial”.

Who the hell thought Thompson would quit on the eve of a major CLOSED primary? He should have waited.

This was the closest thing Limbaugh could have done short of actually stumping for Romney. If McCain and Huck are non-starters, who does that leave...Giuliani? Hardly. This was Rush’s way of trying to push this over the top for Romney.

You never had a genuine “down-the-list” conservative with history in the race.

IN case you didn’t know, Rush Limbaugh, as did all of us here, considers the McCain/Feingold law to be a liberal law, not conservative at all. Thompson was a main sponsor of that bill and the reason it passed.

Thompson spoke conservative, but he was not a “down-the-list” conservative.

anyway, Rush was talking about McCain. Last week he said he’d support Thompson, Romney, or Rudy, but not McCain or Huckabee.

No way Rush misspoke last week, or changed his mind over the weekend.

I’d love to see it just to watch the drive-by’s completely melt down.

You bet. That would be the main reason to do it. His qualification for the job would be a bonus.

Well, once Thompson was the last conservative standing, Rush should have immediately supported him.

That said, Thompson’s mother is in the hospital (IIRC), and I can’t fault him for taking care of family first.

Does this mean that it time to start reprinting those old bumper stickers?

“Don’t blame me, I didn’t vote for her!”

If they couldn’t do it without Rush, then they weren’t strong enough candidates to begin with. Don’t blame Rush for their running extremely poor campaigns.
