it’s enough to know that the people like myself who were rooting for him can make up our own minds.

True.

Some people are truly obnoxious. You are one of them.

I'm a Fredhead, Hunter A, Fred a D.

Don't know how you square that. Fred actually had more delegates than Hunter, and held on a week longer.

Fred accomplished one thing- the destruction of Hunter’s support.

And THIS crock of crap will be offered up for sale here on FR for some time to come. It is an obvious crock, and it never will be anything more than a crock, no matter how many timese sore losers repeat it. Fred Thompson did NOTHING to hurt Duncan Hunter, and in any case fred Thompson owed nothing to Duncan Hunter or you. If Duncan Hunter falied to ignite support, then Duncan Hunter supporters ought to look in the mirror to see why.

Duncan Hunter supporters should now grow some character and stop trying to spread blame where it does not belong.

Which says something about how the campaign was hindered, doesn't it?

Yes, it does.

I rec'd these two emails from another FReeper. Now, I wished I had taken them more seriously.

I have received a tip that there is/are moles in FRed’s campaign staff. Apparently they are holding a grudge over the hiring/firing of that FOX guy last year, and are doing everything possible to sabotage FRed.
I think that the endorsing McCain rumor was started by them.
Does anyone have an inside guy in the campaign who has FRed’s ear?

A week later, this one...

I am REALLY concerned about the mole situation in FRed’s campaign though. I know there are people holding a grudge against FRed trying to get even, and have warned the campaign several times, but I don’t think they’ve rooted it out yet.
ARRGGH!!

Thanks, the only one of those movies I’ve watched is The Patriot. Looked up the movie, I remember him, just didn’t know his real name. He was pretty good in that movie. Sad that he died.

Romney on Thompson:
"Throughout this campaign, Fred Thompson brought a laudable focus to the challenges confronting our country and the solutions necessary to meet them. He stood for strong conservative ideas and believed strongly in the need to keep our conservative coalition together. Ann and I would like to extend our best wishes to Fred, Jeri and their family and congratulate them on their efforts during this campaign."

How can you focus on such trivial speculation when Heath Ledger is dead?

Had to ask one of my sons who he was.

I told folks around here three weeks ago that I was told by someone here in Nashville who has been with Fred since Howard Baker days (my friend was with Baker first) that Fred was being tested for VP possibly.

I was flayed and gutted for my temerity

LOl...you’re being kind.

The future Dick Morris(s) and Snakeheads of the world will one day study Fred’s campaign as a case study about how to lose a POTUS run that was your’s for the taking.

Typical of Romney — he ran a nasty, dirty campaign against Thompson. But now that he wants to pick up Thompson’s voters, he’s shameless enough to pander. We’re all too stupid to remember what he did a month ago, right?

John, I became a Thompson supporter after Hunter bowed out, so shut up.

Anyway, I think you protest too much.

Interesting and disturbing. Kinda makes me understand why Jeri might have been checking up on things earlier on; she might have been suspicious. Might also be why she was so roundly castigated in the press for doing so.

I don’t have a problem with Fred being considered for the Veep spot. If he’s not a major vote getter, he’d be a good choice for the one who is, bringing some strong conservatism to a ticket.

Look, I always liked Hunter. I had a few minor issues with smethings with him, sure, but I had small isses with Thompson, too.

But look, there isn't the slightest reason to think that had Thompson never even entered the race that Hunter's fate would have been changed one iota.

Blaming Thompson for sucking Hunter's oxygen just doesn't wash, whether I protest against such claims or not.

I'm nobody except somebody with an opinion. That's all.

So what will you do now?

I don't know. Here's what I wrote to a friend this morning:

My wife drove me to work today. Along the road she said, “You’re sure quiet this morning.” I said, “Yes, I’m thinking about turning completely away from politics.”

She said, “You love that stuff.”

But the truth is that I don’t, really. I am driven to it out of concern for the direction of things and how adversely it will affect our kids’ lives. But this is really too much. I’d probably be able get dressed up in a tutu and go down to vote for Giuliani because I know he’d be good for National Security, better than the Manchurian candidate, that’s for sure. Or, maybe Romney can convince me that he will stick to his recently adopted positions of expedience and not change them when a new set of conditions rolls in on the next tide.

But for now, I’m tuning it all out. Taking a break. This is just too depressing.
