Fredheads, It's Time to Support Mitt
The Jawa Report ^ | January 22, 2008 05:18 PM | Dr. Rusty Shackleford

Posted on 01/22/2008 3:22:24 PM PST by Checkers

Dear fellow Fredheads,

It's time to support Mitt Romney. Can Mitt win in a general election? I don't know. Certainly he has always had a better chance than Fred. And if the opposition is Hillary Clinton, then maybe.

McCain can beat Hillary. But McCain is, well, McCain.

To be honest, I'm not as down on McCain as most of my fellow Jawas and you, the readers. But that's just because I've been a one-issue guy since right around, oh, let me see, I think the date was 9/11/2001.

But still, McCain doesn't get that the border is tied in with our national security.

Mitt does. And he seems to get the war on political Islam.

Sure, Rudy also seems to get both, but it's probably too little too late for him.

I'm hearing some oddball theory that a lot of Fredheads are natural Huckabee supporters. That's insane. Like, certifiably insane.

It's built on the presumption that the evangelical supporters of Thompson are in the same boat as the evangelical supporters of Huckabee. I got news for Tom Edsell: they aint the same animal. Sure, they may have the same funny accent, and so I'm guessing that to an outsider like Edsell the presumption is that they must be the same species. But they're not.

Here is Mitt Romney's campaign release about his health care proposal, contrasted with Hillary's: Health Care Plans. Highlights from HIS plan:
Now, Gov. Romney Wants To Encourage Other States To Develop Their Own Health Care Solutions – Not Nationalized Health Care. "Governor Romney's health care reform plan is a comprehensive solution to America's health care ills that expands access to affordable, portable, quality, private health insurance. But rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all, government-run system.
Romney Vision Health Care:
Gov. Romney Does Not Believe In Government Mandates For Health Insurance. "In a speech before the Florida Medical Association in Hollywood, Fla., Mr. Romney will present a program that won't include new government mandates for individuals or companies to buy coverage, policies long considered anathema by many conservatives - and that were features of the program enacted in Massachusetts." (Mary Jacoby and Sarah Lueck, "Romney's Federal Prescription," The Wall Street Journal, 8/24/07)

What is the point of your post?

Tom Tancredo endorsed Mitt Romney. He would not have done so if he were not completely convinced that Romney would be on the right side of the immigration debate.

Romney earns good marks from NumbersUsa for his anti-illegal-immigrant stand (he gets marked down because he is not sufficiently anti-legal immigrants for them).

He opposes a federal law mandating health care coverage. He wants the states to experiment with different solutions so we can find something that works.

“Did you miss post #149?

Romney said he wants to do mandated health insurance as President just today.”

So it is your opinion that the only way to fix Health Care is to have Federal mandates?

It looks blue when I see it. Except at night, it’s kind of black with lots of stars.

Romney’s platform is a solid conservative platform. He is running on issues of importance to conservatives, and he is on the right side of the issues.

When you had a candidate you considered less risky, it made sense to judge based on risk. But when there is only one candidate with a solid conservative platform, the risk isn’t that great, since you aren’t getting a conservative if you vote for another candidate.

Conscious as I am of Romney’s flaws, I would never call him John Kerry.

I do not think that Romney would lie about atrocities by soldiers in front of a Congressional committee.

John Kerry is scum.

Yes it is. I hadn’t even gotten into the effects on business. When it was signed, I said “Way to bring business to the bay state. That oughta work! First they make them cover same sex couples, whether they call themselves married or not, and now this.

I think Mitt’s the best choice, but then I have from the beginning. : ) Give Fred’s supporters a little time to get over their disappointment and then see where they’re going.

I’m not going to use name-calling or even denigrate people at this point. I’d be pretty upset if my candidate was gone, and in fact I’m not pleased that Fred couldn’t win the nomination.

at this point I’ll be happy if I don’t have to spend half my time correcting things on a conservative forum, so I can spend more time advocating for Romney to the general population. If the attacks stop, that’s all we really need now. Let people have their space.

Some will never vote for Romney — that’s true of every candidate.

If you show up in the ER without Health Insurance, you’re a deadbeat. I don’t want to pay for your healthcare

So get rid of mandates that say hospitals have to provide health care to every individual.

Remove mandates, don't add them.

You neglect to mention that there is a third option. A person shows up at the ER, they are NOT a deadbeat if they PAY THE BILL! I have never known a hospital to not require that.

"He’s for enforcing people to buy health insurance. Bad position.”

"Why?"

-----

I think he should only answer your question AFTER you've identified the clause in the U.S. Constitution that authorized Congress to mandate health insurance.

Thanks in advance.

Hank

Not a Fredhead but the writing is on the wall. Either Romeny gets the votes in Florida and on Super Tuesday to knock McCain out or McCain is the next POTUS. JMHO, of course.

I don’t “support” anyone. As to what I will do election day........probably write in, I won’t know till I get there. But I can definitely say, it won’t be for Romney.
