Dear fellow Fredheads,
It's time to support Mitt Romney. Can Mitt win in a general election? I don't know. Certainly he has always had a better chance than Fred. And if the opposition is Hillary Clinton, then maybe.
McCain can beat Hillary. But McCain is, well, McCain.
To be honest, I'm not as down on McCain as most of my fellow Jawas and you, the readers. But that's just because I've been a one-issue guy since right around, oh, let me see, I think the date was 9/11/2001.
But still, McCain doesn't get that the border is tied in with our national security.
Mitt does. And he seems to get the war on political Islam.
Sure, Rudy also seems to get both, but it's probably too little too late for him.
I'm hearing some oddball theory that a lot of Fredheads are natural Huckabee supporters. That's insane. Like, certifiably insane.
It's built on the presumption that the evangelical supporters of Thompson are in the same boat as the evangelical supporters of Huckabee. I got news for Tom Edsell: they aint the same animal. Sure, they may have the same funny accent, and so I'm guessing that to an outsider like Edsell the presumption is that they must be the same species. But they're not.

Ratings for the big 3 networks are down, and newspapers and news magazines have sales in the toilet.
There are reasons, and they ain't just the Internet.
Romney said he wants to do mandated health insurance as President just today.
"THANKS FOR WASTING MY TIME"
Wow...touchy, aren't you? If you post a thread that is pro-Romney, you should not consider defending your position a "waste of time".
Yeah OK Ill vote for Mitt cause I dont think he is crazy.
Romney supported the court’s ruling in Heller. So I’m guessing people who support Romney are not all that pleased with the Bush administration’s objection to that ruling.
Romney is much better on gun rights than he is given credit for. He’s NOT a hunter, and shouldn’t have said he was, and he shouldn’t have said he owned a gun. But at least he was trying to show he wanted to be like those kind of people — he wasn’t running away from them.
His current position, spelled out in two press releases issued December 30 and December 31, make it clear he does NOT support ANY new AWB bills, but will support the existing 1934 gun law, and would consider extending it to new weapons that are like those listed in that law, such as hand grenades and RPGs.
BFD! Romney is still a liberal and would govern America with moderate policies that have nothing to do with conservatism.
[Mitt does not support DC mandates for Heath Insurance.]
“Oh contrare, he was on Hannity today, and said that is exactly what he would do to “fix health care”. He DOES want to put his Romney care nation wide!”
So you believe DC mandates are the only way to “fix health care”?
You are the reason the remaining candidates are RINOs, always willing to settle and never willing to put your foot down. It’s left leaning from hear on out my friend.
I was around in 1992 when many of my conservative friends supported old Ross because George Bush was not “Conservative” enough. After that we suffered through 8 years of the Clintons.
I am in the military, and Clinton gutted us and did nothing against Bin Laden and his like.
I hope those on this thread that are once again playing the “he is not conservative enough card” remember your choice is not between Mitt and Hunter, nor Mitt and Fred, but between Mitt and Hillary or Obama. I am heading back to Iraq again this summer—willingly—and I hope come 20 Jan 2009 I won’t find that all those who died did not do so in vain because we elected a Dem to the Presidency.
Furthermore, any Reb elected will likely (though I agree not guaranteed) nominate a more conservative judge than either Hillary or Obama will.
I think that there is no such thing as a national election. (Even though I too use the term from time to time.)
There are 50 independent state elections, and the candidate who can garner the majority 270 Electoral votes is the winner, even if that candidate were to lose the popular vote by millions.
The Democrats can only win the EC by stealing votes via voter fraud in strategically close swing States.
Romney is much much better on illegal immigration than George Bush — and George Bush was unable to get a bill passed.
Tancredo would not have endorsed Romney if he had ANY doubts at all that Romney would do right on the issue.
You may still have doubts, but I trust him. So do others who care about the border issue.
I have health insurance, but I see the disastrous effects on young people. They have to buy it or forfiet their income tax return (if they get a refund) or pay a fine that increases every year. These policies that are touted as affordable, still run about 250. a month, and have a deductible of 2000.-2500. So these young people never actually use the insurance, they just have to pay the premiums. If a person is healthy, they cannot reach that deductible in order to use the insurance. To them, this is a tax, and it only goes to pay for illegals and those who get state pd. benefits.
You can do that, but I suggest if you really want to send a message about the Reagan Revolution not being dead, write in Ronald Reagan.
I guess we are looking for a President that doesn’t have the human right to change their mind on anything and be sincere.
I wonder how many of us think we are flip-floppers, liars and not fit for any kind of responsible job because WE changed our mind.....on who we married, who we worked for, religous beliefs, political parties, in-laws, drugs, alcohol, schools, etc. etc.
None of us are Saints, but we seem to want God for a President.
Again, I assume that no one believes one another when we say we have had a change of ideas, a change of heart or simply changed our minds.
Romney's health care plan is big Gov't plain and simple.
“I can’t believe someone honestly asks that question on a formum called FREE Republic. I guess liberty and freedom are long-forgotten principles.”
“Liberty and freedom” does not mean a “free lunch”.
If you show up in the ER without Health Insurance, you’re a deadbeat. I don’t want to pay for your healthcare.
Individuals should have their own damn Health Insurance.
I don’t think that’s so difficult to understand. It’s called personal responsibility.
Without personal responsibilty, any notions of a “Free” “Republic” go up in smoke.
Before you tell me that I am helping the Dims, let me quote another freeper who put it very well.....
"Sometimes the best way to deal with a taking a bandaid off is gritting your teeth and ripping it off."
Remember it took Jimmy Carter to give us Ronald Reagan.
Who do you support now?
