Thompson's Drop out probably benefits Huckabee most

Good news for Huckabee TRIBUNE-REVIEW Salena Zito Posted January 22, 2008 3 :00 PM

Democratic strategist John Lapp said, "On first blush, it would seem that (Mike) Huckabee is the main beneficiary of Fred Thompson's withdrawal. Huckabee, Thompson and, to a lesser degree, Mitt Romney were splintering the hard core, evangelical, social conservative vote. With Thompson's withdrawal, Huckabee has the chance to consolidate the far right. However, if Thompson endorses John McCain, that would be a nice conservative credential to have, considering McCain has been struggling with the mainline conservative Republican base."

Thompson
Hunter
Tancredo
Romney
Giuliani
McCain
Huckabee
Paul

I mostly agree, but how can you put Paul below the 3 Amigos?

I know Paul is a pull out artist, but just like with getting a Dem in the WH - it’s going to be impossible. The next president, no matter who it is is going to be forced to stay the course (if not expand) the WOT.

Unlike the the 3, Paul is anti big govt, pro-fence, and pro-individual liberty. Three things that have a major impact on our lives day-to-day

John Lapp, Democrat strategist- LOL!

Only a wishy-washy Thompson supporter would go to Huckabee after having been a genuine Fredhead. Huckabee is simply a pro-life liberal.

What Fred brought was -for the first time in YEARS- a voice to stand for and openly discuss conservative principles - saying we should look to those principles FIRST...as the abiding underpinning of policy.

Huckabee is ignorant in such areas.

Why would you ask a Democrat strategist what Fred suporters will do? I know that Republican strategists aren’t exactly thick on the ground in Pittsburgh, but you could have called one.

Democrats do not understand conservatives. All ‘round conservatives like me checked out Huckabee early on and rejected him as unacceptable. We’re not going to change our minds on that.

Huckabee doesn’t have wide enough appeal to win the nomination, and Rudy is tanking for ethical and personal reasons. The nominee will be either McCain or Romney, and most conservatives are smart enough to come to the conclusion that since those are the choices, Romney wins by default, as McCain is completely unacceptable.

That was my first thought too. Maybe if we can rock and roll on a redraft Hunter campaign, he’ll reconsider.

I put Ron Paul above Kucinich because Paul is a bit less kookier.

Methinks the author is unaware just how much the vast majority of Thompson folks despise Huckabee and blame him for Fred’s demise.

It will help Huck with the undecideds, but my guess is the bulk of those committed to Fred either drop out completely, or go to Romney

The party is in sad shape when a Massachusetts RINO...

So, lemme get this straight.

You think that everybody who is persuaded to express a MORE conservative viewpoint than before is simply a "RINO" and therefor subject to ridicule?

And you really think that anyone who did not declare a full-bore conservative dogma the minute they turned 18 is simply a "RINO", and deserving of contempt??

Do you really think your abrasive accusations will expand the conservative movement??

Or will people go running from the conservative movement out of fear they will get dissed and smeared if they happen to express a more conservative thought then they had previously proclaimed?

The answers are right there ... at the tip of your tongue, I am certain.

As a southern evangelical that was supporting Thompson, my 2nd choice is Romney. Huckabee has 3 problems:
1- He is from Arkansas
2- He reeks of being a disingenuous, dishonest political animal (similar to 1)
3- Big spender on social programs

Sciafe was neutered long ago. I think he now supports Hillary.

You could very well be right. His papers (Pittsburg Tribune-Review) editorial board supported Murtha's proposal to withdraw all troops from Iraq in 2006.

I have gone from Brownback to Thompson and now Huckabee.

I am not supporting any politician from the Northeast for president for as long as I can help it.

And anything coming out of Massachusetts particularly - I am looking at it like it got three heads and each one of them has the number 6 on it.

When you are originally from the N.E. then you can safely count on the unknown evil as being better than the evil that you know.

Btw, I find it remarkable how many Fredheads swore all up and down the place that they would never vote for another, and now see so many falling over themselves for Kennedy’s pal Romney.

Huck’s biggest problem is that he wants to impose HIS religious beliefs on everyone else. He wants a state that will go out and do what he wants to do from his pulpit.

I don’t want any of that, even believing that Christ is my Savior and the promised Messiah.

Look what values voters did to themselves. They had it all with Fred but chose to be seduced by the dark side. Now they will have no one serious about their causes. I wonder if Huckabee knew this going in, because he has the Clintonian deceitfulness to him, or if he really is just a moron.

Good grief. I take my grandchildren to Disneyland and Fred drops out. I do not even know when this happened.
What happened? Last I heard he was sticking it out.
